Default Bern steak house in Tampa?

Has anybody been there?
Is the trip worth going and is it as good as advertized on their web site?

Default Bern's

Without a doubt best steak I have ever had, and the desert room is outstanding

Bern's is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. The steaks are well aged, you can get any cut (type, thickness, etc.) you desire, my steaks have always been cooked perfectly, and the sides are very good.

The service is usually very good (I've had a few occasions where it has just been "OK", but usually it is way above average). The waitstaff has to serve an apprenticeship on their organic farm and in the kitchen before they can work on the floor.

The wine list is the best I have seen anywhere.

I have never tried their desserts, as usually I am too stuffed to enjoy.

That being said, I have enver taken a trip to Tampa just to eat at Bern's. We usually end up there if we have busiess in Tampa.

Yes & yes. Also if you go ask for a kitchen & cellar tour it's very informative.

Default Bern's Steakhouse

Bern's Steakhouse is a special occasion type place. Dress code and the whole bit...But well worth it! Even if you're full after the yummy steak and sides, you MUST visit the dessert room. Old time elegance, private glass-walled cubicles. Just a special treat at the end of a nice night.

It is pricey but it is an excellent dining experience. As previously mentioned do take the kitchen and wine cellar tours after dinner. Also make sure to save room to experience the dessert room. My wife & I have been there a few times over the years and it is still one of our all time favorites. Great place for a special occasion.

I love Peter Luger's and Old Homestead in New York, they are among my favorites--BUT--I still like Bern's as my all time favorite steak house.
