I'm curious as to the reason for the access gate that's on the Belvedere multi-modal trail near the high school. It's only on the side going from CR 466 toward the Pimlico Rec Center. On the opposite side the auto lane and the trail lane are side-by-side but the gate only extends into the auto lane.

There may be gates on other parts of the trail but I don't recall seeing them.

Most likely safety with the villa street, to the right.
There have been several traffic pattern changes at that gate in the past.

That gate has only been up a few weeks and I have seen it broken at least 4 times.

I think you're right. Keep in mind that carts and LSVs would go through there at full speed. If you're in a car, you stop at the gate. Then if you want to turn right onto the villa street, you sometimes have to come to a stop to make sure that no cart or LSV is passing you on the right.

If you were coming from the opposite direction, and wanted to turn left onto the villa street, you couldn't see the carts/LSVs coming. They were obscured by the gate and wouldn't slow down at all. Sometimes I would start my turn and then have to hit the brakes fast when a cart or LSV came speeding through.

20 or 25 miles per hour seems very fast when the distance is short.

I never complained about it to anyone but I sure am happy they put in that golf cart gate.

We live in Village of Belvedere and "heard" it was put up to slow down the golf cart traffic----obviously a safety issue.
