Default How far the mighty Lance Armstrong has fallen.

Lance Armstrong Doping: International Cycling Union Strips Champion Of 7 Tour De France Titles, Bans Him For Life

Very tragic when one of our heroes falls to some kind of personal foible be it drugs, sex, cheating, lack of self-confidence, doubt, personal injury, crime, etc.

Still remember how exciting it was just to be in the same room as the sister or cousin of another hero bicyclist when I attended Earl Wooster HS in Reno, NV. This was the relative of Greg LeMond. LeMond already was making a name for himself at 14 or so. GregLeMond.com: The official site of Greg LeMond Never saw Greg LeMond at Wooster HS though; now notice probably why-- LeMond: Armstrong Has Been Trying To Destroy Me For 10 Years | Cyclingnews.com

From my research it looks like LeMond and Armstrong have been bitter rivals for more than a decade.

I lost any connections to my Reno friends, classmates, crushes, etc. though except for some contacts with Philosophy professors at the University of Nevada, Reno as well as the normal Facebook alma mater stuff.

I remember buying his book, "It's All About The Bycicle", and now it turns out to be about his using PED.

I read an article in the New York Daily News yesterday showing how he bullied people into his way of life. Threatening to destroy people who didn't get in on his elaborate doping scheme. It's a shame as I heard today they are going to vacate his Tour De France wins and remove his name from the bycicling community.

The mighty have fallen and he is not out of the woods as several people may sue him. Thus, his financial gains will be adversely affected. He is the most ligitigeous individual in the history of sports.

Somehow, I don't feel sorry for him as the USADA report shows he is not a very honorable person.

I was impressed that Armstrong could beat cancer and do it with such grace. I was not impressed with Armstrong the athlete. I had heard too much by people in the know to even remotely believe he wasn't doping. I was in the camp guilty until proven innocent and firmly believed that he beat the tests by cheating, not by being innocent.

LeMond was always a hero. He has more class and style in his little finger than Armstrong ever had. Hopefully, the Armstrong turmoil can now be put to rest. Maybe one day bicycling will again be a clean sport. This is certainly a beginning.
