His windows were tinted too dark to see the interior (not legal).
He didn't keep his window rolled down (he could have had a weapon inside .. no way for the cop to know).
No time for games.
Comply or get cuffed.
It's a no brainer ..... even for someone with half a brain.

Sounds reasonable.

How would the cop know that before he pulled Hill out (by his hair) of the car? And then several seconds later when the same cop grabbed him around the neck when he dropped him to the curb?

Even if cop somehow did know that when he first approached Hill's car, why would the cop not get Hill out at that point in time when the window was down (because Hill giving license to cop), and before the cop walked away?

There are 2 clips floating around. One showing the entire event, from the initial stop through the event. The other clip omits the beginning, and starts as hill was rolling up the window. That one is edited and incomplete.

It's okay though, I understand your point of view - after all, you probably watched a lot of cop shows on T.V. Of course you know how to do that life-threatening job better than the people that actually do it everyday. It's not like there's a lot of life risk in being a lawyer or working in corporate America. Heck, I've watched a lot of YouTube videos so I'm a professional plumber now also.

Agree with all that you said. Traffic stops are the leading cause of fatalities for police officers. In this case the windows were heavily tinted so the officer could not see him or potentially other occupants, and he was not compliant. Why didn’t he just do what he was told to do?

The Supreme Court has held not only must you roll the window down but if officer asks you to get out you must exit the car. Maryland v. Wilson 519 us 408 (1997).
In Pennsylvania v Mimms the court also said the officer can also require everyone in the vehicle to exit the car. There are several other cases that can be sited like Michigan v Long.

A ticket is actually a courtesy, you could technically be detained.

If the cop asks you to roll the window down do it. Cop says get out do it. Plenty of time later to argue your side of the story.

I have only been stopped for a traffic incident twice in my life. Both times I did what I was told and there was no problem. I was very polite and the officers were very polite.

Here is a Chris Rock public service video on how to respond - and more importantly, how not to respond - to a police stop.

I’ve only been stopped once in my life. 3:30 in the morning and, I am told driving erratically (I passed over the shoulder line). I stopped the car rolled down the window and placed both hands on the door so they were visible. Easy peasy- no sweat. My ego was not damaged by understanding that a cop will (and should) always be on the alert. Now this was 40 years ago when citizens had more appreciation for our police. Now??? Well I wold imagine a cop needs to be even more alert given the idiots that are out there

Yep. A cop has a tough job. Every day they have to prepare for the worst, hope for the best, navigate every situation while walking the tightrope between curtesy and caution. All while undergoing the scrutiny of an unfriendly and uneducated public looking for any excuse to police bash. Jmho.

Probably take our Police a couple of hours to rustle up that many plods for a traffic stop!

Unless the perp was posting unapproved dialogue on Facebook or Twitter. It seems like they send the UK cops out in force for violating the narrative.

Nice of you to drop by anyway.
Many folks just delete any verbiage and enter three characters such as, ///, then send that. If I want to delete my post before I send it, I just hit the arrow at the bottom of the screen that takes me to the previous page. It's like I never hit "reply". Like backing out.
See ya around. 😀

I can’t believe people are using the race card. The cop asked him twice to roll the window down. He would not do it. Then the cop asked him twice to get out of the car and he would not do it. You do what the damn cop tells you and you don’t get hurt! None of this would’ve happened if he simply complied with the cops order . How’s the cops supposed to know whether he has a gun in there or not? I’m sick of the BS blaming cops.

ITS REAL SIMPLE! DO WHAT COP TELLS YOU!!! If you had put your window down like he asked twice, this would not happen. If you got out of the car after ask you twice, this would not happen.
How was the cops supposed to know whether the guy got a gun in his lap? I’m sick of blaming the cops. I’ve been pulled over plenty of times and List what they told me and never got in trouble. When I get pulled over, I put all four windows down so he can see in the car and I put my hands on the steering wheel. You have no idea what they go through every day!!

Bwanajim 09-12-2024 01:49 PM

All had to do is listen to the cop. The cop asked him to roll his window down and keep it down, he ignored him and rolled it up. The cop asked him twice to get out of the car, he didn’t do it. How the hell is the cops supposed to know whether this guy has a weapon or not? Your reply is BS.

You're privilege might be showing *just* a little bit.

Hill's major offense was not rolling the window down *enough*. Not rolling it down *quickly enough.* Not getting out of the car *quickly enough.* Not sitting down *quickly enough.* And for that he was dragged out of the car, shoved to the ground, handcuffed with a knee in his back, then choked and pulled to the ground again.

The cop certainly showed who was boss. If that is what he is paid to do then the national exposure will do him good. We'll see.

Not for nothing, but several of the cops were Hispanic. The cop that was suspended was Danny Torres.

Pretty soon you are going to hear the term “white” hispanic.
