a small wild bird mad a nest above our front door and laid 3 eggs... she has not been seen in over a week. Audibon Society doesnt return calls... any suggestions? May and Steve

I would remove nest and eggs if you are sure it has been abandoned.
Definitely the eggs before they attract vermin.
The mother has probably been killed by a car or predator.
JMO.

outside chance Carolina wren if small nest was made out of grass/small twigs. If it was attached with mud probably barn swallow. You should of seen the bird hanging around you’re front door and squawking as you went in and out?

The eggs have not been incubated or tended to by the mother. They are not living, and you can safely remove them .

So sad. But better to dispose of them I imagine. They'd have a hard time starting a life in the wild if they didn't have the parents around.

I had a similar experience and found the Mom may be out looking for food for herself and you don't see her when she may return periodically. I had 2 doves and after 4 weeks of Mom sitting on/off the eggs I thought they may have been pine cones (it happens) because the eggs 'should' hatch in 2 weeks? (Google) WRONG! One day I saw 2 objects the size of soft balls sitting on the ledge...2 doves...NO Mom? Mom came back & literally threw one out of the nest and stuck her head under the youngsters wings forcing the baby to stretch & open them. I thought the 2nd bird was left after several days....BUT..Mom showed up did the same routine and now there are 2 doves flying around my home that I see and smile at! Nature has it's own time table!

I would hold off a little. I raised chickens and found a bird will lay one egg every day or so until they have clutch. Then they start brooding. It may be very different with wild yardbirds. I also found that birds will sometimes start a nest and abandon it later.
