Default Legal research on the web.

This is a good resource for starting legal research using the web. http://public.findlaw.com/

They seemed to have done a major revamping of Findlaw's site. Looks like it is a lot more user friendly.

They also seem to have a section to help out Crime Victims http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/crime_victims/ which is a good idea as many of the law and public libraries I have checked on their websites for materials for victims/survivors of crimes have a link to the Findlaw website but have next to nothing that is geared specifically for crime victims.

I have put in requests though the Findlaw suggest a link feature that they put in links for crime victims to the FL Victim Services Directory as well as to the MN Victim Service Provider Directory.

I do not know if they will get around to doing this. I was a regular on Findlaw's message boards from April 2002 onward until I discovered TOTV back in July 27, 2007.

The people here on TOTV sure are a lot nicer than the majority of the people on Findlaw's message boards.

Findlaw is a excellent place for legal research for lay people. Did not think that much of the message boards but they changed these this week it seems so maybe they will have better information on them than what they used to have.

Does not seem like they have done anything with respect to getting links for any other state's victim assistance directories except for CA.

For TOTVers needing to do legal research there is a new development at the Lake County Library System which may be of interest.

"New legal services at the libraries of the Lake County Library System include the addition of Westlaw, a comprehensive online database that is available at any public computer in the libraries. In addition, employees at the libraries have been trained to help patrons search the database, and Westlaw training opportunities for the public will be scheduled in the future. All libraries will also carry a core collection of self-help legal materials."

From old article on Lake County Library System's web-site.

This still looks like a very good starting point for crime victims.

I just double-checked this on May 17, 2014.

For Florida there is the Florida Victim Services Directory. http://myfloridalegal.com/directory
