If you feel like you are "walking on egg shells" around someone, you are in an abusive relationship. Physical abuse is easy to identify. Emotional abuse leaves no evidence. Seek help or plan your exit.

This past weekend I had lunch with some former coworkers. I don't know how the topic turned to domestic violence, but the one coworker admitted that her father regularly beat her mother during their marriage (both parents have long since died). None of the children in this family ever said anything about this or called the police, even when they were adults, and this abuse did not stop.

My former coworker even admitted that her father would strike her mother in front of their grandson. My friend's son, who is now in his 30's, told my friend that he remembers seeing grandpa hit grandma on more than one occasion when he was at their house. I was just stunned that adult children would turn a blind eye to one parent abusing another parent. I guess I'm just naive.

My ex-wife, over 20 years ago, and my last, treated me like ALL of these points. By far the meanest person I have ever meant.
