Amazing Gracie was a wonderful book. So was Dean Koontz's book about Trixie.

One of the points made to Koontz when he received Trixie (a golden retriever guide dog who had been taken out of the system due to joint problems) was: "If this dog does something wrong, it is your fault." Indeed, when she once peed in the corner of the living room and was being chastised by him, he suddenly realized she had been coming up to him all evening, staring at him. He had blown her off because they had company.

So in "Art of", when they abandoned the dog for three days and then hit it for eating the kid's toys, I was furious with the owners, not the dog. That was why I couldn't keep reading the book.

Another good, easy read is called "BUCK".

I will have to try Trixie.

A lot of animal books have chapters like that.

Who is the author?

If you want to read a wonderful memoir about two friends brought together by their dogs, read "Let's Take the Long Way Home," by Gail Caldwell. It's not totally about the dogs but is a fantastic read about friendship and overcoming adversity. The dogs play a great part.

Jackie do you have Malinois or Tervurens? Both lovely. Would love to see your dogs.

Another book that will have you looking at your dog and wondering what they are thinking is from Koontz also. It's horror, although not REALLY scary horror, "Watchers" is one of my favorites because I love the golden in it named Einstein. You'll wish he was your dog.

I read this book a few years ago and it is one of my favorite books of all time. I have given several copies to special friends, it's so touching and heartfelt.

It must really be something if it's a better read than "Racing in the Rain!" Anyway, I feel that "Racing in the Rain" is a better read for a male than a female. Do you feel that "Emily & Einstein" is a better read for a male, a female or kind of neutral in appeal?

Without a doubt! I read this book about 4 years ago and kept it so I can read it again someday! My only problem will be in trying to resist giving the ending away to myself before I finish it! :coolsmiley::1rotfl:

Great book, and you don't have to be a dog owner to appreciate it - has universal appeal.
