Unhappy Harper Lee's Go Set A Watchman.

I am on page 72 of this novel. It is OK but nothing special so far.

Not a page turner for sure. Took me a week to finish it.

I couldn't finish it. I was at my brothers for a couple of weeks and he bought a copy. I lost interest.

Before I started I watched To Kill a Mockingbird twice on Youtube. It was that compelling. Watching the little girl think things out and how fondly almost everyone loved her father because of his courage mattered to me. I read the book a long, long time ago. I remember it being a feel good read.

I don't know what is true about the release of this second book. I don't think the author needs the income and I'm afraid Go Set a Watchman puts the author in a less favorable light to me.

The book/movie never did much for me and so this latest addition certainly does not garner my interest. but it was intended to make a lot of money for someone given all the hype

According to articles I have read, Harper Lee wrote "Watchman" prior to Mockingbird. It was rejected by the publisher and rather than edit it, she used it as a basis for Mockingbird. It was found recently among her belongings and published, unedited. There was also a bit of controversy about her permission to publish since she is quite elderly and living in a nursing home. There recently was a PBS special about this, and I think there is a clip on You Tube. I also was very disappointed in Watchman. I wish she would have rewritten it a few years after Mockingbird. It may have been better and more relevant. Just my opinion.....

That's the problem for me. Which version reflects the views of the author? and does it even matter?

If someone discovered an earlier version of the Mona Lisa and it had a happy face does that in any way detract from the mysterious one everyone loves?

Does Godfather III undermine I and II?

Do I need to go golfing or it it too hot outside?

These are big questions.
