I think it's wrong to blame the o.p. for not knowing enough about the "disgusting" movie.

I think they have a right to ask whether The Villages theaters really wants/needs such trash on its screens.

Remember: For every screen showing the trash, that's a screen that COULD be showing a movie that is decent!

I don't know why people don't see what a squalid bunch Hollywood is as a whole. But then, people buy tabloids full of lies and abnormality.

According to IMDB, people who liked "Fifty Shades of Black" also liked "Pride and Prejudice". Go figure!

In my personal opinion Hollywood is creatively bankrupt and has been for a very long time. its why they rely on technology so much. so what you are seeing now is the diminishing effect of this loss generation after generation of movie makers. What viewers are doing now is picking the best from a bad lot meaning that an OK movie appears better than it really is.

the other aspect is Hollywood failure in creating really interesting character actors. there a a few as here are a few good movies but....

Funny.

Those movies pale in comparison to movies like Jackass and its sequels. Even the glee club romps Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 really push the level of decency. I really enjoyed the Pitch Perfect movies though.

I really see no way of stopping this as it is market driven. There's a demand for movies like this and those with a lot of unnecessary violence.

A poster back on the first page recommended reading about films on IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base). That has actually been my home page since about 2003. I enjoy rating films and I have over 2500 rated so far.

Generally I won't pay to go to the theater to see a film rated lower than a 7.0, "Fifty Shades of Black" has a 3.3 rating and in it's opening week took in less than $6 million dollars. Those two numbers alone should tell you to stay away. Here is a link IMDB Home Page A 3.3 is about as low as any new release can get and only $6 million, that screams BUST.

If your group had it's mind set on a comedy, then today using the rating of 7.0 or better, you should of gone to "Hail, Caesar!" It has a 7.5 rating and is made by the Coen Bros. If you're not familiar, they made O'Brother Where Art Thou, Fargo, True Grit, The Big Labowsky, Burn after Reading, No Country for Old Men and Raising Arizona to name a few.

I find comedy the hardest to judge. I have been to movies where most of the audience is rolling in the aisles, whereas I just see it as rubbish. Conversely, things that I find funny may leave other people cold. Monty Python, anyone?

However, since comedy actors often stick with the same general type of comedy, if I dislike someone in one movie I tend to avoid other movies starring that actor.

We would have if it had been shown on Thursday. We have a group that goes to Chick Flicks and lunch the 1st Thursday of the month. Better movies came in on Friday (today).

"Stripes" I was 31 when it came out and I've seen that film about five times, I believe the others came out even later and I haven't seen any of those. I went to Stripes because the year before I saw Caddyshack, which also featured Bill Murray, and I loved it.

Other good comedies about that time was Airplane and Animal House. Something you won't see now and happened in both those films was there is almost no use of the F-word.
