Barbie is doing extremely well at the box office. Movie theaters are not dead yet.

Barbie, Oppenheimer, Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible, et.al. Movies are doing quite well.

You’re kidding, right?

There was a pregnant Barbie. ‘Midge’.

Midge, the pregnant Barbie, is featured in the film. Which I saw and enjoyed.

I love seeing how others, even a doll, experience the world. And this was a throwback to my childhood for sure.

This article implies that Indiana Jones bombed.

Breaking even can't be called a success, but it was entertaining.

I didn't "do" the whole Barbie phase when I was a kid, I was more into playing "fort" with blankets stretched over chairs in the den, making snow forts, and Lincoln logs. But I grew up with a sister who was very much into "all things dollies." So it'll be great to see this movie once it comes out in streaming on the internet.

Sound of Freedom is a much better choice

It is a very important movie to see and to do something about in some way if only to talk about it. I mean Sound of Freedom.

"The Villages Daily Sun" movie times...

... are encircled with a pink border. And they used a lot of pink ink on the bottom.

I will probably wait for Barbie to come out on Digital. It is already set up for pre-order.

It’s doing well…. As a female director myself, this is great to see.

Greta Gerwig has broken the opening weekend record for a female director, solo or otherwise.

Her Barbie movie opened to an estimated $155 million at the North American box office over the July 21-23 weekend, a historic sum that easily surpasses the $103.3 domestic opening of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. In 2019, Captain Marvel also broke the glass ceiling when debuting at $153 million. That movie was co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Other stats: Barbie scored the top opening of the year to date, as well as one of the top openings since the pandemic, and it towered over Christopher Nolan’s male-skewing Oppenheimer this weekend. (Oppenheimer still did well in its own right for a three-hour historical drama in opening to $80.5 million).

I cant imagine being so bored that I would spend money to see - at least what the previews show - a big screen of Pepto Bismol pink. Didnt have them as a kid.

Hard to imagine any "man" going to see Barbie that wasn't coerced or bribed.

Barbie - Plugged In

Thanks. A very even handed review. Agree, not for the under 13 crowd. Which is odd, as Barbie is marketed to 3 to 9 year olds.

First, I find the term "father" offensive. I would let "Baby Daddy" slide, though even that enforces the patriarchy. Non birthing Sperm donor is appropriate.

Yes, beside the cheap sexist version of the initial doll, it’s the predominant ugly pink which is so hard to get used to… but some people like it. No female gets pumped up breasts and high heeled mules for other females. Nor would she suffer like that for herself. Initial Barbie represented a pathetic image of trying to please males. Some people say it’s empowerment, well, personally I don’t think that looking like a hooker is female empowerment. I think it’s more like a desperate attempt, at any cost, to get male attention. But that’s just me. My sister-in-law, a very proper, very British, lady turned her livingroom and dining room into various versions of Barbie pink.
