Frankenstein (1931)

Frankenstein (1931) - Rotten Tomatoes

Very enjoyable. Started out fast and didn't waste time. I always like that about a movie. It actually slowed a bit in the second half, even though overall it's a fairly short movie. Couldn't help but laugh a bit at seeing the wrinkles in the curtains forming the cloudy sky backdrop. :)

Could be considered a bit thoughtful too. Even though the monster ended up getting a bad brain (sorry if that's a spoiler to anybody), he still seemed like he could have been a good guy if given the chance. But as soon as woke up, the mistreatment started. I felt really sorry for the monster right to the very end.

One last thing, I'm a huge fan of Young Frankenstein. Watching the original Frankenstein made me appreciate both movies more. I had several belly-laugh moments seeing the Frankenstein scenes that inspired the Young Frankenstein scenes. If you like Young Frankenstein and have never watched Frankenstein, I heartily recommend that you do. :)

PB Rating: 7/10

I'll post another movie soon to focus on for a bit. Until then, anybody else have any Frankenstein opinions/thoughts?

----------

Quick note to everybody...I'm working with the Admin to see if the poll can be removed. I didn't realize it couldn't be or I wouldn't have used it in the first place. Please don't let the 'clutter' of the poll stop you from posting. Really hoping it can eventually go away. Until then, please just ignore it.

Loved Frankenstein and would give it a 10/10 rating.

Th Eweissenbach's opened up a whole new genre of really good movies which got me to thinking about the Fred Astaire movies, yes I know they were just dancing and music, but if you watch one you will see that the dancers were incredible athletes running up and down banks of stairs while tap dancing and sliding down the banister!!! Great music and timing. Also remember the movies made by Gene Kelley ..... American in Paris, Singing in the Rain, et al. Incredible direction and camera work.

I borrowed this from a write up of the old musicals: We are lucky that both Gene Kelly's and Fred Astaire's dancing was captured on film during the "Golden Age" of Hollywood musicals. It gives all of us a chance to see the creativity, genius, and just plain hard work that went into their performances. . Plus they had the best composers and lyricists of the 20th Century creating the songs -- in many cases just for Fred and Gene.

I just thought of another one - The King and I. Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner. Another great master piece from the golden age.

Mr. P.Bear you started a great thread here, I have really enjoyed it, thank you!

So many movies, so little time:ohdear:

Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) - Rotten Tomatoes

Saw this yesterday at the Rialto Theater here in the Villages along with The Invisible Man.

Creature from the Black Lagoon was kind of rather silly but did feature a beautiful woman in a bikini doing a lot of swimming.

Julie Adams - Rotten Tomatoes

The Invisible Man (1933).

The Invisible Man (1933) - Rotten Tomatoes

This was an often comical movie with a lot of very serious ideas floating around like the abuse of power.:bigbow:

It and Creature of the Black Lagoon are showing at the Rialto Theater here in the Villages this week through Thursday.

It's time to pick our next movie for review, comment, discussion. I'll suggest a new movie about once a week. You are encouraged to review the movie...however quickly and informally...even if you've only seen it in the past. Of course watching it again before your post would be great!

Since we watched a truly oldie last week, I'm going to go with something a bit "newer", although it's still definitely a classic. I know you're all waiting with bated breath :) so here it is...

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

That is a great movie with many great lines. And songs as well.

No comments at all on Butch Cassidy? Oh well. Here's my review anyway...

*** Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) ***

Just screams classic for me. Great cast. Wonderful mix of plot and humor. And even though it's very funny, it may even bring a tear to your eye at times. Great visuals. Wonderful music. Every scene can be enjoyed on its own.

I won't go into any more detail on this one. For me, most of the movies I rate really high just don't need a lot of words.

PB Rating: 10/10

Just for the record, you won't see a lot of 10's from me. This movie is special.

For the next movie, I'll pick one from those that previous posters have mentioned and hopefully get a few responses. Stay tuned. :)

I'm open to new suggestions also. But if you suggest one and then I pick it, I expect a review from you after the pick is posted! :)

Saw Dracula from 1931 and Bride of Frankenstein (1935) at the Rialto this afternoon. Both were quite good. James Whale had some real talent. James Whale - Rotten Tomatoes
