117 years old!!!!! Boy, howdy, that's some longevity. Playing skeevy, sneaky little weasels was a steady source of roles for him for decades. From betraying his fellow robbers in The Killing to renting that special apartment to Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby, you always knew to keep your eye on him and be careful turning your back. 117!!! RIP

It sounds like he spent his time off of movie making in a isolated cabin in the Sierra Nevada.

Did his character not face off with the hired gun?

I loved him as the “cheap gunsel” in “The Maltese Falcon.” I liked the respect Sam Spade gave him for his willingness to die to protect Agnes, his erstwhile girlfriend.

If you want to see him in his best part as many critics agree the movie Born to Kill not only is he sympathetic but also a homicidal maniac in a movie that he’s not even the worst person !! One of the best noirs ever
