New to TV, and took in the Spiderman movie over Christmas. We went to the theatre in Sumters Landing. While the movie was very affordable as well as the concessions, the movie experience in the theatre was terrible. Old seats, the seats won't stay up and you get your legs crushed by the 300 pound person sitting in front of you. The sad reality is that they need to spend money to update the theatre and while that will fill them, it means fewer people in the seats. They are not likely to do it and as long as they can fill the theatre, why would they? I suspect they will milk it until it's dead and convert it into retail or apartments. While I have a good home theatre, I still love to see the movie in the larger open spaces. The only difference is I shouldn't go to the larger open spaces in my underwear....

with streaming services, DVD's and everything else, movie houses may be heading the way of the drive-in movies faster than we thought

funny how quickly the world seems to be changing nowadays

As cheap as GOOD TVs are today, purchase a large TV and enjoy a movie at home. At home, you can pause to fetch refreshments or use the bathroom. AND you can rewind good parts to enjoy again. I haven't been to a theater in about 40 years and do not miss it.

You know, a other previously thought extinct dinosaur is making a come back... Reading paper printed books. Even with a top of the line "Home Theater", I don't think you get the Cinematic experience.

Let's not forget about Vinyl either, it's making a come back....

So Rialto still being renovated, Brownwood hasn’t reopened since Covid and Old Mill playhouse (Lake Sumter Landing) is closed on Wednesdays! I don’t get it. You’re telling me that there is not enough demand for one movie theater that is open every day? Especially in the winter where cold and wet days like today limit outdoor activities. And yes I know I could drive to Leesburg but prefer something closer.

I know it a drive but you can make a day of it and go to Ocala Epic. The theater is awesome, clean, assigned seating, recliners and you can shop and do lunch.

It's called pleather: a plastic material made to look like leather.

They were referencing vinyl records, which has outsold cd's over the past 2 years, not seat materials. Doh.

Technology has made the movie theater obsolete and the few that are trying to hang on are learning this the hard way. I, like you, like them. But today's movies are almost 99.99 % special effects with horrible acting and horrible storylines. Suck it up and drive to Leesburg while you still can because it will falter also before long.
