I agree. Those movies where the father shoots and kills his daughter in the end are depressing.

It's strange you mention 'Easy Rider' and 'Joe'. The three years I was in the Army I only saw four films on base, and two of them were Easy Rider and Joe. I other two were 'Mash', which I saw while stationed in Korea and 'Klute', which featured Jane Fonda who wasn't on the best of terms with the military.
