I watched it off Amazon the day before the Oscars and loved it. I was not surprised it won. different strokes, etc. as someone who puts the subtitles on to watch regular TV, it was not a problem watching and enjoying this movie.

I had a Korean MD and former Korean army physician who was also a professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korean at their Medical School for a nine month long roommate at Middlebrook Hall on the U of MN. This was on the Graduate Student level. He did tell me some Korean phrases but I have forgotten most of those. So I would definitely need subtitles. Dong Goo did tell me a lot about South Korea. I rented the original 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Swedish movie version when it came out in 2009 because I had heard so much about the books. It was excellent, gave it a 9 out of 10, you had your choice a dubbed voice or the original voice with sub-titles. When the American version directed by David Fincher, who normally turns out great movies, starring Daniel Craig was released, I saw it right away. Boy, was I disppointed, then I also rented the two follow-up movies in Swedish and they were also excellent. I noticed the other two books were not Americanized, I think most people felt the same as me, watch the original and forget about a remake in America.
Good and made a star of Noomi Rapace OK, but not as good In 1985 there was a Japanese film that was sort of like Parasite, it was called "Ran" and I never heard anything about it until the awards. It was nominated in 4 categories, it sounded intriguing. I looked all over Savannah for the VHS and finally had to get a copy from a store in Atlanta. It was excellent. Sub-titles only, but the action and the beauty of the film made it worth reading the titles. It was a war movie sort of like Gladiator with a lot of horseback riding, but with much color. |

Parasite movie
Rented on DirecTV last night - saw it with another couple at home.
1. Found it quite difficult to read the subtitles - esp the white font on a bright background...not good. 2. Distracting to glance down to read and try to keep up with visuals. Really don't understand why Distributors don't have English dubbing for U.S. 3. 2 hour movie - excellent visuals thruout. Very interesting storyline. Acting appeared to be excellent (hard to judge without dialog...). First 2/3 of the film became intriguing...then the last 1/3 had a gory unexpected turn - enough said, no spoiler. In the end, we felt it was a very good movie and thought-provoking. But "Best Picture Oscar"-worthy. Not so.
