This was essentially a wrap-up episode of the wonderful but unsupported (by the network) TV series Firefly. Being a huge fan of the series and knowing it well before seeing Serenity, I can't really judge how good a standalone movie it might be to someone unfamiliar with the series. For the fans, it was a sad farewell. If you found the movie at list a little intriguing, it's well worth going back and watching the series.

One thing though - the opening sequence starting with a chunk of the ship falling off during atmospheric entry, is amazing film-making. It's one long sequence that introduces all of the main characters from the series (save the preacher) and the entire layout of the space ship, all in one shot. It must have been a real chore to make, but it's great to watch.

This is a different movie. You are writing about the 2005 Serenity movie which was excellent IMHO. Serenity (2005) - Rotten Tomatoes

Many seem to like that Homer as a philosopher rather than men and women like Plato, Aristotle, and Hypatia. Hypatia, Ancient Alexandria’s Great Female Scholar
