A classic. Try to watch it every fourth of July.
James Cagney was originally a dancer but first was in gangster movies. George M. Cohan gave this movie his blessing. He was married twice, unlike the film version.

I love the part when Cagney dances down the stairs at the end. Classic.

We caught it last night too, I have always loved that movie! My grandmother once told me that my grandfather, who died when I was very young, talked and looked like James Cagney. I've always enjoyed watching him because of that.

Cagney Story
Cagney had a farm about 50 mile north of New York City in Millbrook New York. He raised Black Angus Cattle. One time he was riding through the little village of Millbrook and his driver was pulled over for speeding. As he was writing the ticket Cagney lowered the back window and said to him "Don't take no crap, copper" ( I change the word to crap although it was really a 4 letter one!). I knew the "copper" who wrote the ticket and it is a true story. He had a good sense of humor.
