I see several on here I would’ve put if you said the 20 best movies.

Keithtama 11-25-2024 07:04 AM

I would add “The Graduate”

Switter 11-25-2024 08:40 AM

1. Lord of the rings trilogy
2. Logan
3. Book of Eli
4. Saving Private Ryan

No particular order:
Star Wars rogue one
Oblivion
My cousin Vinny
Guardians of the Galaxy
Gladiator
Ferris Bueller's Day off.

I am sure I am probably missing some that could replace ones in the bottom six though.

So many, Casablanca, original Robin Hood with Erol Flynn, In Harm’sWay, Longest Day, Space Cowboys, My Fair Lady, Mister Roberts, Hunt for Red October and many more but nothing recent that relies on special effects instead of a strong storyand good acting.

I was of the same opinion about prison movies until Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Of course, I read the books before since I had just about all Stephen King books.

One of the posters on Talk of the Villages is the niece of Ann Bancroft and Mel Brooks. She did not seem very impressed with Hollywood. I have had very mixed feelings about my interactions with them over the past 35 years .

Favorite Movies

I wrote a book about my favorite 100 movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood, the 30s through the 50s. My top five were:

The Best Years of Our Lives
Double Indemnity
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Singin' in the Rain, and
King Kong - 1933 version

Others in the top ten included Casablanca, The Searchers, Witness for the Prosecution, and 12 Angry Men. Gone with the Wind was in my top 100 but not my top ten.

My younger brother's 2nd wife's first son has a small part in August Rush as one of the gang of street children run by the Robin Williams' character.

There would sometimes be movie production trailers a few hundred feet from our Rohnert Park CA home in the parking lot of the Red Lion Inn. I did walk our cocker spaniel puppy around 1990 but really only talked about duck poop with any of the people out-and-about . But those movie trailers sure gave me ideas. I was sending out a lot of snail mail soon after that in 1991. Some of these were connected in some way with movies.
