I had just emailed a list of song suggestions to WIND FM in Ocala/Gainesville this week, so I pulled some of the 80's bands from that list. I had submitted to them about 100 songs last July and I've heard about half of them played. I send a new list on Wednesday and I've already heard 3 songs since yesterday, Steve Perry "Oh Sherrie", Led Zeppelin 'Immigrant Song' and Dio "Rainbows in the Dark".

Just talking about 80's hair bands, I wouldn't classify Aerosmith as an 80's hair band. I remember their first hit 'Dream On' was all over the radio around '73. I'm leaving out bands like Journey, Foreigner, Boston, etc. because they also got their start in the 70's. Just bands who had the big hair, and pretty much were making records in the 80's and died out after 1990 or thereabouts. Of course a few have lived on, such as Motley Crue.

I did cheat with two bands, Bonham (the son of Led Zep drummer) band was around from about '90 to '93, but they fit the mold and hair bands were on the way out by then, but it's a great song. I also included Rainbow who started in the 70's, but I love Joe Lynn Turner's voice and they were sort of a project with three different singers and Ritchie Blackmore going back to Deep Purple in the 80's. Some obvious omissions as Ratt 'Round and Round' and Quiet Riot 'Metal Health' are not listed, that's because WIND is already playing those songs, so they're not on my suggestion list. If I were to list everything, I would have to take a lot more time and the list would be much longer.
