Default Folkies

Any fans here of the folk music artists of the 60's? Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Richie Havens, Peter, Paul & Mary, etc. ? Never heard on radio anymore, but were a great influence on my life many years ago.
By the way, "Puff The Magic Dragon" was not about pot. It always annoys me when I hear people say that.

I've always been a fan of Peter Paul & Mary. I also loved Phil Ochs. Got to see him perform in a small coffee house in Toronto back in the late 60' or early 70's. His version of the Highwayman is one of my favorites. And "I Ain't Marching Anymore" is a classic.

I hope you are coming to the Pops Chorus Folksingers "Give a Hoot 6" Hootenanny tonight at North Lake Presbyterian. This is our sixth concert and we regularly have 700+ in attendance. Here's the info (also on the TOTV calendar), Tickets available at the Box Office and will also be available at the door.

The Pops Chorus Folksingers are back for another fun-filled Hootenanny to benefit Tutors for Kids Inc. and All One Family Inc. The Pops Chorus Folksingers, Pops Chorus members who have performed folk songs at many of the Pops Chorus concerts, perform the great folk songs made famous by Peter Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, New Christy Minstrels, The Brothers Four, John Denver, and many other musicians of the times. Audiences find themselves singing along, clapping to the rousing upbeat music, and reflecting on the beautiful ballads of this special musical era. “Give a Hoot 6” includes a number of classic folk songs not performed in past “Hoots”, including “Rocky Mountain High”, “Freight Train”, and “The Sounds of Silence”, as well as audience favorites “Puff the Magic Dragon”, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone”, and “Today”. And of course, a lot of surprises and fun! Joining the group will be professional folk singers Playnfoke. The show will take place on Tuesday October 22 at 6 PM at North Lake Presbyterian Church. All tickets are $15 general admission. Tickets are on sale at all Villages Box Office locations and will be available at the door if not sold out.

Would love to come to the Folk Festival if we weren't in Missouri now. We saw Peter Paul and Mary twice, The Brothers Four twice, The New Christy Minstrals, The Limelighters, The Kingston Trio, The Modern Folk Quartet, Joe and Eddie, Joan Baez, and Hoyt Axton in concert in the sixties. Just gave dozens of old folk albums to my son this year.

With the exception of Hoyt Axton, we did songs by all of those acts tonight. We will probably have another "Give a Hoot" in February. I'll post on TOTV if we do.

Come and see The Pops Chorus Folk Quartet FOR FREE at the Fenney Recreation Center Front Porch on January 15 from 2 to 3:30, part of The Villages Recreation Dept. Outdoor Concert Series. The boys will be playing your favorites from many great folk artists, including The Kingston Trio, The Brothers Four, Peter Paul and Mary, and many more. They will be joined by Jan Lavin, BJ Odendahl, and Jim Vukelic from The Pops Chorus Folksingers for a few songs, and of course, there are always a few surprises in store! Don't miss this fun concert that will bring you back to the great folk music era.
