I talked to a guy a few days ago who named his son McCartney.

Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box, they tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.

Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on across the universe.

Was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure?

Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all the words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

You want her, you need her
And yet you don't believe her when she said her love is dead
You think she needs you

You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone
She doesn't need him

Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be time when all the things she said will fil your head
You won't forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years!

And so it's true, pride comes before a fall
I'm telling you so that you won't lose all

When I cannot sing my heart I can only speak my mind

Right you are! That is why I said somewhere here that "Across the Universe" best describes my life. The "Pools of sorrow..." like just does it for me.

Not only that, but "Pools of sorrow Waves of Joy" is so descriptive of both of those emotions.

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

And from the mind of the man who wrote about the 60's teenage experience better than just about anyone else, Brian Wilson:

There's a world where I can go
And tell my secrets to
In my room In my room

In this world I lock out
All my worries and my fears
In my room In my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing laugh at yesterday

Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room In my room

Tom Hannon 08-26-2012 04:13 PM

Brian Wilson's father was abusive. In his room was the place he went to get away from him. I feel it was more than just drugs that played with Brian's head. I'm sure his father had a lot to do his his fragile mind. So sad.

"All lies and jests, still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest" -- Simon and Garfunkle

"He not busy being born is busy dying" -- Bob Dylan

Geewiz 08-26-2012 05:36 PM

I've been cursed by dreams crawling out of my head
So black and pure and gleeming - laughing from the devil that's within
Then there's you
Who can rationalize her feelings any time
It's something I find appealing
Like your lips as they form the word -
"No."

I wrote that...good tune as well

BarryRX 08-26-2012 05:36 PM

she takes just like a woman
she wakes just like a woman
she aches just like a woman
but she breaks just like a little girl.....Dylan

The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument
And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band....Dan Foegelberg

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife
baby edgy and dull
and cut a six inch valley
through the middle of my soul
At night I wake up with the sheets
soaking wet and
a freight train running
through the middle of my head -
only you can cool my desire
oooh I'm on fire...... Springstein

PHONY’S

Don’t claim that your brave, when your full of fear
Don’t act like a worrywart, if you really don’t care
Don’t pretend to enjoy a crowded atmosphere
And go in the corner and play solitaire

Don’t put on a laugh, when inside your cryin’
Don’t make a statement, you might later be denying
Don’t say it’s your best, when you’re not trying
Don’t purr like a cat and roar like a lion

You’ve gotta be yourself, don’t be a phony
Don’t be led around, like a small pony
If you’re yourself, you’ll be honest and true
Than people will respect you in whatever you do

Don’t go twisting the truth with self-made lies
Don’t start making excuses and crazy alibis
Don’t put on a mask and wear a disguise
Don’t walk in the shoes that aren’t your size

Don’t be a sore loser, if you don’t always win
Before you can finish, you have to begin
You must be confident before you jump in
Don’t go overboard, if you can’t swim

There are things you can do, things that you can’t
Don’t get the feeling, that your superman
Just be who you are, that’s no great a task
And they’ll be nothing impossible people will ask

Did you ever try to get it published Tom? Good work.

I Hope You Dance is my son and my song. When he went into the Navy I gave him the CD and we danced to it at his wedding last March. I love the song.

Thanks Ed. I actually put it to music. My friends had a popular band and they tried to record it but it was all screwed up. It sounded like Grand Funk Railroad with heavy drums and screaming guitars. I wanted it played like "Blowing in The Wind" or "You Got To Hide Your Love Away."

My musician friends said my writing was a cross between Bob Dylan and John Lennon. Unfortunately, I didn't go anywhere with my song writing but did manage to have a collection of short stories published. I am working on a novel soon and I hope to have that published.

Allan Clarke's finest lyrics -

Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whisky bottles piling high

Bootlegging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the DA man
When I heard this woman singing a song

A pair of 45's made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise
She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9, beautiful tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
'Cos that long cool woman had it all

I saw her headin' to the table
With a tall walking big black cat
Well Charlie said I hope that you're able boy
'COS I'm telling you she knows where it's at

When suddenly we heard the sirens
And everybody started to run
Jumpin out of doors under tables
When I heard somebody shooting a gun

Well the DA was pumping my left hand
And then she was a-holding my right
Well I told her don't get scared
'Cos you're gonna be spared
Well I've gotta be forgiven
If I wanna spend my living
With a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9 beautiful tall
Well, with just one look I was a bad mess
'Cos that long cool woman had it all
