Default Motown music 60s

I don't recall the station here in the villages playing too much Motown music. I think growing up in the 60s , it was a big part of our lives. Love to hear, The Four Tops, Temptations, Marvin Gay, Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels, just to name a few. What were your favorite singers or groups?

The Temptations. Saw them at the Latin Casino in NJ in 1969.

I have noticed since I came here three years ago, how the music is changing. Like you said, I don't hear as much Motown or The Beatles as I did three years ago. I assume TV might be favoring the younger crowd now that they already have us older folks locked in. I just pray the music doesn't turn to rap.
As far as listing the favorite songs and bands, these threads have been started many times before, with a wide selection of answers. Of course, the senior elders lean toward the 50's stuff while refuges from the 60's like me like The Beatles, Rascals and Four Seasons. Of course, groups like The Eagles have to be on any list despite not entering the music world until the early 1970's.
My favorite Motown groups are all of them, although I think Smokey Robinson is one of the most talented.

As far as soul music, I favored Memphis over Detroit. You know, Booker T, Sam and Dave, Otis, well anything on Stax or Volt.
As far as Motown, it had to be Smokey.

The Supremes were, and still are, my all time favorite Motown group.

Great groups and great songs, Tommy. I especially liked Mitch Ryder. One of the best live acts I have ever seen. However, Mitch Ryder was not Motown. I would have to say my favorite Motown group was Rare Earth.

Thanks Doug. I was sure Mitch Ryder was not a Motown act but never had a chance to mention it.

Rare Earth, did not sign with Motown until 1969. First hit did not come out until 1970. I do not count them as 1960s Motown.
