A little change is nice
Hey I love Classic Rock and Golden Oldies but TV Radio station should do like a "Rat Pack" show...Frank S, Dean M, Sammy D, throw some Tony B, and some Big Bands too.
How many times can we listen to "My boyfriend's back"or CCR .... etc. and this is coming from someone who was at Woodstock. |
I like the music from the 50's & 60's. This is when a lot of us were growing up and it brings back many fond memories.
I also like old country western music...............concerts..................jazz ........some light rock...........but I can't stand :cus:RAP!:yuck: 20 years from now TV squares will be playing oldies from the 80's & 90's. |
SABR,
My favorite band in TV is Shepherd's Pie. They play classic rock with a little bluesy stuff (Steve Ray, etc) thrown in. Their lead singer (Dunning Shaw) also performs at KBs as a duo with Donna Moore on Monday nights. I have not been to one of these shows yet - but hope to soon. If you like Rock, look for Shepherds Pie! Kate PS - I like some of the newer rock stuff - but mostly Clapton, The Beatles, The Stones, Seger, Mellencamp, Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple...) |
I like new age: Mannheim Streamroller, Narada, Enya. And...Renaissance music (old lute music).

Rock On!!!! Times they are Changin!!! |
I love the big hair boys. Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, White Snake, Great White, Journey. Oh yea, throw in some Eagles !!! :pepper2:
But, I also like good rock & roll to dance to. Rocky & The Rollers, Sensation & many others here are excellent. |
Don't forget about Queen!! Those guys were the finest musicians of a generation!!
|
Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Now if only Norman Lee would learn and perform Stairway To Heaven off the forth Led Zeppelin album it would be unreal. He has the vocal range and this was the acoustic album so they did not use a lot of instruments that his group does not already have. He could do it and do it well. This is the most requested song of all time and has true meaning to everyone regardless of age. What other song would anyone ever equate to TV? |
Cant beat Jimmy Buffett!!:bowdown: (Being a parrothead from across The Pond) I met him in London on July the 5th this year O M G!!
Also love the Stones, Genesis, AND some new Country, especially Alan Jackson. Have you seen him??????? Tall Blond and handsome :icon_wink: :icon_wink: |

You are so right - Norman could definitely hit those notes. While I love Shepherd's Pie - I also think Norman and R&RT are awesome.... |
Musicians....
Interesting thread.... I will also be moving to the Villages in a couple years and would like to see the music a bit more updated. I grew up on Rock and Roll and played drums in rock bands for 20 years...
How many other hard rock musicians are out there that might be interested forming a "commercial" group??? |
I love rock. I keep telling my husband I can't wait until TV keeps up with the music. He tells me I'm too young.
|
Rock music ........
I once tried to make rock music. I got two medium sized rocks (didn't want it to loud) and rubbed them together. I got no music, just a grating sound, no wait, I guess that is kinda like "rock music" (very grating)!
Give me Glenn Miller or Artie Shaw anytime. And I'm not an oldster. I just appreciate real music that you cam dance to. Jerry Jackson |
Hey Kar-guy, I'm 64 and love R&R,country, jazz even some opera.
Also love Black EYe Peas, Gwen Stephani, Beonce', Jayzee and shocker of it all I love 50 cent (fittycent) but he's a little risque but I think so talented and I do love his music....Play on.......................:clap2::clap2::clap2: |
I like the newer rock too. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I like that, but I also like the stuff today, 3 Doors Down, Train, Tonic, Nickelback, Alanis Morissette, Creed, The Calling, The Villages is pretty young with the music they played when my husband and I were there.

A simple solution
Haven't read all the posts on this thread, but here's a simple solution.
Keep the present music as it is until the 3rd town square opens. Play the crappy "new rock" exclusively at the 3rd square. The younger people will probably reside in the new area serviced by the 3rd square. A beneficial side effect will be that the local outside thuggery will also be attracted to that music. Am I starting to sound like a Geezer???? |

No just offensive... |

:agree::agree: And Duke, Ella, Frank, Benny, Basie, Louie etc etc etc |
Whew.... Lots of opinions [and tastes] here. Reading some of these posts, I feel like I'm listening to my parent again...:-) However, by 2015, there will be Rock 'n Roll in the squares, of the 60's and 70's variety. Looking forward to 2015!

For now, the best in TV (for rock) imo is Sheperds' Pie - and they are at KBs Friday and Saturday of this week. |
I about fell over when I heard the Boondock Saints play Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream at SS on Sunday evening. Now if they would only learn Stairway to Heaven and a few other "rock" tunes. There is always hope.

music
I also am in the early 60's and would love to hear and dance to the music from Woodstock!!!!! The greats were there.........and they live on everywhere but on the villages property!!! We need to recognize that the boomers are living here in droves.
Radio Host.....please read this and respond. Thank you |
I'm with you on this one!
The oldies get "old" real fast. Wouldn't mind some Top 40 thrown in there too. And how about some 80's? |
Classic Rock rules! And as has been said, as more of us Boomers move here, the music will adapt.

Love that late 60's and 70's rock. We will be moving to TV as quickly as the house sells. We hope to find some concerts around Florida like we have here in Houston called Arrowfest. We just attended one with Foreigner, Doobie Brothers, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, Eddie Money, Starship, and War. All day on a sunny hillside and into the night. And all for $14. Anybody know if this type of concert exists in Florida?

Rocky & The Rollers

To each his own but I know of no other group that draws the crowds of people that they do. And I'm not one of their groupies. It's just fact. |

I have followed this thread for quite some time and I am pleased to say that rock music lives in The Villages!! There is a band from Oxford called Ssnakeyez that has been appearing at Hacienda Hills CC and more recently at Urban Flatts. The lead guitar player is unbelievable and plays a version of Jimi Hendrick's Voodoo Chile so good you think Hendricks is in the house, including behind the head and back guitar playing! On Monday night at UF they played music from Bad Company, Allman Bros, Tom Petty, a ZZTop medley, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton to name a few. And the place was packed and the dance floor so full they had to move tables to make more room. Although primarily a blues band, they are definately worth the time to go see. We are trying to bring them back to Urban Flatts. If you are interested you can find out where they are playing at their website - www.************/ssnakeyez. This is what we have been looking for!

Oops! tThe website is at myspace

We were also at Flats Monday. They were awesome. The place was rockin' & the dance floor was packed !!!

Rock Music
Working hard to get to TV as soon as the divorce is worked out and I retire (either this August or next). I've played in bands for years...pretty left of center stuff. Alternative tunings...odd time signatures...lots of delay...lots of effects...looping...I even have a Martin D-28 with a midi set-up to control synths.
My first concert was Tommy James in 1967. Since then - Jefferson Airplane, Dead, Stones, Who, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, CSNY (I was there for 4 way street), Blind Faith, Dylan with and without the Band, Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles (I drove Cameron Crowe to the show!), Derek and the Dominos (with Elton John opening), Springsteen (countless times - I even have him reading an offer to play at my wedding on a boot), the Ramones, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Jam, The Smiths, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Radiohead (my fave), Fleet Foxes, Sonic Youth, Tortoise, Andrew Bird, My Bloody Valentine, Grizzly Bear, The Association, The Turtles, Buddy Rich, Brian Wilson with and without, McCartney, Harrison and Caetano Veloso. There are lots of others - that's just the ones that stand out. Oh, Randy Newman, Pat Methany, Mahavishnu, Chuck Berry, Wilco, and Cocteau Twins. My one regret - having Joy Division tickets and then Ian hung himself. Ah, Love Will Tear Us Apart. When I get down to TV, look me up - I share music. ps - Joni Mitchell kissed me. Cheers - Gary |
Rock Music
What we all need is more Beach House!
Listen to them! |
I'm so sick of 50's-early 60's music I could scream.
Via sat radio I listen to modern rock, which there is a lot of once you find it, that is pretty good. By "modern", I mean stuff from 1995 onward. |
Harbor53 - there is a huge thriving community of artists of all kinds here in TV. I'm sure you will find your niche here, no problem. And the larger the place gets, the more people you will find that have similar interests. My hubby and I have only been here since November, and I am already playing gigs and starting to get more bookings. I have found artists and musicians here from all different walks of life, and some of the background stories (like yours) would just blow you away. They chose to retire here because of the opportunities to continue to enjoy their craft and reside among people who appreciate good art. Come on down!

I LOVE Mozart, Beethovan, Bach, Shubert, Haydn, Handel, Ravel, Schuman, Struass, Vivaldi, etc.
