Default Santana at Woodstock

Fifty years ago today Santana had perhaps the highlight performance of the event. Thinking that the band was scheduled the next day Carlos decided to partake of some mescaline given to him by Jerry Garcia. A change in the lineup had him going on next. Fighting hallucinations and thinking his guitar was a snake..... well, here it is:

Changing gears. At this moment 50 years ago Joe Cocker was on stage.

I was surprised when I bought the Santana - The Woodstock Experience album that the song Soul Sacrifice (with the notable drum solo) was nearly 3 minutes longer than the same song on the Woodstock soundtrack album. A good chunk of the difference is in the drum solo and it is well worth a listen.

Michael Shrieve was only 20 when he played Woodstock. He left Santana in '74 and became a very popular session drummer and toured with many different artist.

The Villages Florida

In 2013 some of the original members regrouped and released Santana IV in 2016. Left to right, vocalist/keyboardist Greg Rolie, percussionist Michael Carabello, Carlos Santana, guitarist Neal Schon and drummer Michael Shrieve. Greg Rolie and Neal Schon also left Santana in '74 and formed the band Journey. When not with Santana, Michael Shrieve plays with his own band Michael Shrieve's Spellbinder.
