You see I would have added the Big Band Era in which case I would include Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James but I gave up before that. I love Benny Goodman's "sing, sing, sing" with Gene Krupa at the drums. When I hear it my body starts to move automatically.

[quote=Tom Hannon;411755]I guess you had no room on your list for "KYU SAKAMOTO". I remember his song in 1963. I tried to sing the words but couldn't do it. I have enough trouble speaking English. Why did I ever try singing a Japanese song that I had no clue to what it was about? On a serious side- He had a nice singing voice. I heard he died in a plane crash. Not sure if that is true or not.

This person was onboard JAL flight 123 in 1985 when the 747 with a bit over 500 souls perished. The details of this improper repair to the aft bulkhead of the pressurized section is documented as the cause.
The Korean Air Flight 007 was in 1983 and downed by Soviet Migs |

Johnny Hartmann and John Coltrane
Ella Fitzgerald James Taylor Plus, how come I've been searching for an old Webcor to play my 33's and ended up settling on a junko $40.00 set to replace my Sony system damaged in my move to TV. Don't care I guess, at least I can listen to my vinyl collection and reflect on times and people goneby. Fabulous music in my many years. Can catch a few tears on songs and singers past. Or, a smile. |

[QUOTE=John_W;411302]I've heard 'Turn the Page' at least twice in the last week on the radio. He released the original studio version in 1973 on a rare early album called "Back in '72", and that version is never played. After Bob became popular he released a double live album called "Live Bullet" in 1976 and the live version of the song became a hit, and is what's on the flip-side of your '45.
QUOTE] I played Turn The Page on my juke box and it was the live version. Yes, I know the song. Heard it before. It is a nice song, but i'm not sure if I'll play it too often.

BobandSandy. You are right. It was the JAL flight. Since it was two years apart, I got confused. I think though another famous star passed away on KAL flight.
Don't know why they called it a Sukiyaki Song but without that title, this song would not have become this famous. Am going to give it a try with the translation. Let's walk with our heads up high So that tears won't start to fall Remembering a nice spring day Walking alone in the evening sky Let's walk with our heads up high Counting the stars with the teary eyes Remembering a nice summer day Walking alone in the evening sky Happiness is above the clouds Happiness is beyond the skies Let's walk with our heads up high So that tears won't start to fall Walking with our tears in our eyes Walking alone in the evening sky Whistling Remembering a nice autumn day Walking alone in the evening sky Sadness is beyond the shadows of the stars Sadness is beyond the shadows of the moon Let's walk with our heads up high So that tears won't start to fall Remembering a nice spring day Walking alone in the evening sky This song was sang again aftter 3/11 Northern Japan Earthquake/Tsunami/Radiation victims as they are persevering the fate which be fell them. They use the term "gaman" which literally means to persevere. |

Great translation. The song fits to be played during the earthquake/Tsumami disater. A shame KYU wasn't around to sing it.
