My Uncle was a DJ in Lafayette, Indiana and would always play "If you knew Susie, like I knew Susie...Wow what a gal" on my Birthday!!!

Did anyone mention "Sweet Caroline"...so nice about the Yankees playing it to give tribute to those in the Boston Marathon.

In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed

Geewiz 05-08-2013 01:29 PM

Here is one I wrote about an acid trip in 1969...with a girl's name in the title

Jessica And Me

No one cared a good goddamn about poor Annalee
Curled up in the corner conversing with a flea
They talked of many pleasant things
Like watermelon moons
Annalee and her new friend were making plans for June

We all sat in amazement watching circus on the wall
Jessica was eating cake and rolling ‘cross the floor
She talked about some silly thing like what she learned in school
Then fell on through the attic
And danced across the roof

We talked in several languages
But, no one said a word
Too busy chasing diamond stars for passages of verse
Annalee took off her clothes to look more like a flea
It was another big adventure
For Jessica and me!

May as well get this one going again.
How did nobody remember the greatest girl name in song?
In 1961 the Edsels sang about their girl "Rama Lama Ding Dong."
You don't meet too many Rama Lama Ding Dongs anymore...

I believe she was a friend of "Short Fat Fannie" (1957 Larry Williams).

Now that we've covered pretty much all of the hundreds of girls names in songs, has anyone ever noticed that there are very few songs with boy's names in the title.

There are a few, Johnny, Billy, Norman etc, but I can't think of a lot more.

Considering that it is the title track from "Layla and Assorted Love Songs" that Eric Clapton wrote to proclaim his love for Patti Harrison (the wife of his friend, recording partner & Beatle ... George Harrison) ..... I think we can assume Eric meant it to be a woman's name. ;-) At least one other song on that album (Bell Bottom Blues) was an ode to Patti.

After Patti left George and married Eric (George attended the wedding, those crazy rock stars!) .... Eric wrote "Wonderful Tonight" for her.
