Rough language and nudity are like the tip of the iceberg of world problems. Many people see nudity in movies as art. And rough language as being reality. Real western characters in 1883 did NOT talk like Roy Rogers and Dale Evans from 1950s on TV.

That is typical of 1st episodes. They lay the groundwork for a series or single movie. Then they improve as the plot thickens.

for the all immersive experience add to your list
centennial. A mini series based on james michener s book 1795 to 1970s colorado
&
deadwood. South dakota 1870s
&
the gilded age
a series centering on 1870s new york city and some of the robber barons who's new wealth and aspirations fueled the westward expansion of all the aforementioned series in this thread in the cause of manifest destiny.
A side benefit is the culture clash of old vs new money aristocracies which dominated the era.

I don’t think you will find that it matters. But, if you need a suggestion, start with Yellowstone. Enjoy!!

They both tell stories of a family - one headed to Oregon in 1883, and their future relatives trying to hold onto their land in Montana. The scenery, drama, and action are outstanding in both. It does not matter which one you watch first. Just DO watch them!

It would be cool to watch 1883 first! But must of us wasn’t given that option.

Default 1883 or Yellowstone

No contest, cable already costs way to much. I am not going to pay more to watch something . I would like to watch 1883 and it will be on a cable station sooner or later but until the Yellowstone.

If you want a lot of action and a fast paced show go with Yellowstone.
1883 is OK but seems slow moving as opposed to Yellowstone.
