Sling has hallmark and hgtv. I have a sling account for my wife.

YouTube TVoffers most if not all the "cable channels" you will want, and most all of the local channels. I particularly like it as I live in The Villages part time and Kansas City part time, and get the KC local channels in both places - plus it is portable so don't have to pend in one place and activate in the other. For local channels I have a power antenna in TV.

I have DirectV Now and two homes. It knows where I am and only picks up the locals in there area I am at. Are you saying you can tell YouTube the area you want it to pick the locals from regardless of where you are using it ? I would like that if true.

From YouTube Tv directions.....

If you're watching YouTube TV on a TV, you can update your current location (for example, if you're traveling).
To update your location on your TV:
Open the YouTube TV app on your TV.
Select your profile photo.
Select Settings > Area > Current Playback Area.
On your mobile device, navigate to tv.youtube.com/verify.
Allow the website to access your device’s location (if you haven't already) to update your current playback area.

Only allows you to update to current location as far as I can find.....

That is how Directv Now works. To clarify what you can't do is pull into Washington and tell it you are in Atlanta. It knows you are in Washington and will only allow those local stations.

You are given the local channels where the account is set up. They stay the same no matter where you are. We get Kansas City channels in KC, TV, and when we are on vacation in Minnesota, Colorado, or anywhere else.

Not how YouTube TV works on my ROKU when set up with the instructions from YouTube TV. When I travel to the Dallas area I watch local Dallas stations on YouTube TV, not the original Orlando channels. You have to update the settings and verify with cell phone.

Well we apparently have quite different experiences for which I have no answer. I set up YouTube TV in Kansas City in June. Spent late July and all of August in The Villages and had KC local channels in both places. In addition I had Fox Sports KC, so I could watch the Royals games. Back to KC in beginning of September with no change.

Nor can I explain the difference. I follow the set-up instructions for traveling provided by YouTube TV when locating to a new area and get the local programs. Works for me.

I'll wait for a tie breaker before I switch from Directv Now to Youtube. Thanks for trying.

Therein lies the entire problem. There is no competition at the consumer level. Cable companies compete with cities and towns to provide their service without fear of competition for other cable companies. The only fear they have is from satellite dish companies and the reception is not as good or as reliable.

Take away this form of competition and let cable companies compete at the consumer level and you'd see a huge drop in prices and a huge inclusion of more channels.
