I am catching up...currently to episode 7.

I view the original movie and the remake to be more family-ish-fun-ish.
The current one is sorta dark by comparison. Some humor and little or no fun so far. The robot is no comparison to the past units. No fun or humor with this one. And it is too funky, guy in a costume whereas the others were more robotic.
They have shuffled the deck on the characters. If one never saw the previous editions it would not matter.
Current opinion? We will see how it evolves.
