[QUOTE=Northwoods;1838448]I have both conservative and liberal friends on Facebook. I can tell you that I have seen a number of posts from conservative friends that were "blocked" by Facebook (they will not let you click through to the link). I have never seen any posts blocked by my liberal friends (and that includes a liberal friend that wanted our President to die).

I believe that if Facebook feels that a link is "false" that they should add a "bubble" that says there are alternate views of this link. But I don't think they should ever censor or determine what I should see. Isn't that what the first amendment is all about?[/QUOTE

When Zuckerberg first created Facebook at Harvard he told his friends that students who gave him their information were stupid f****. Tells you right away their ethics.

To those who dispute what goes on with social media and how it is used.....

"A conspiracy theory that Joe Biden would wear an electronic device in his ear during the first presidential debate went wildly viral Tuesday in the hours before the debate, and the groundless theory was later amplified by conservative news outlets that claimed that Biden had backed out of an ear “inspection.”

The conspiracy theory, which was pushed in a text message sent by the Trump campaign after it went viral on Facebook and YouTube, claimed that Biden had declined to “undergo inspection for electronic ear pieces before debate.”

"The earpiece conspiracy theory is an example of what disinformation experts call “trading up the chain,” where the sheer virality of a meme or a conspiracy theory forces mainstream outlets to cover it, giving it a patina of credibility it otherwise would not have."

This is from 2018 but seems germaine today....

"Facebook on Tuesday began taking down pages affiliated with the "Proud Boys," a far-right organization whose members were allegedly involved in a violent fight in New York this month.

Pages on Facebook and Instagram that previously belonged to the group disappeared and instead showed messages saying they were not available. The social networking company confirmed the move and cited its policies against hate organizations and figures.

Several members of the Proud Boys were arrested this month, in the days after police said the group was involved in a fight with masked protesters belonging to the anti-fascist coalition Antifa. The fight occurred after Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes gave a speech on Manhattan’s Upper East Side."

Wow. I didn't know who he was until I looked him up just now. He is sorta "anti-everything". We have some posters like that on here but I hear them called carmudgeons.

I have friends whose links I can't access too. Most of them are because they screwed up their own account settings.

But some of those links are links that had been deleted at the source, and are now no longer valid links, so Facebook blocks them. Some of them go to phishing and other sites that will access your computer and become a threat to your privacy and/or identity and/or bank account, and Facebook will delete them, and then block your access to them if your friend "shared" the link before it had a chance to be deleted.

Around 60% of my "Friends" (including family and casual acquaintences) are Democrats. Perhaps 15% of them are Republicans. A solid 10% of them are declared, proud, Anarchists. One of them is a Socialist. The rest are unaffiliated, like myself.

Anecdotes will be anectdotal and don't represent anything of significance, at all, ever.

“Facebook said Tuesday it will ban any pages, groups, and Instagram accounts representing the conspiracy theory QAnon from its platform.

The move comes three years after the far-right conspiracy theory began. During those years QAnon adherents have embraced a number of different and often contradictory theories, but the basic false beliefs underlying QAnon are claims about a cabal of politicians and A-list celebrities engaging in child sex abuse, and a "deep state" effort to undermine POTUS Last year an FBI office warned that Q adherents are a domestic terrorism threat.

Facebook's move will be welcomed by some, but the platform has allowed the conspiracy to grow and spread for years.”

I have run into very few who believe that. I saw one the other day, but most of the many people I know, know better.
