Default Sons of Liberty

Did anyone else watch this History Channel Mini Series?

I loved it.

It ended with the British evacuation of Boston and they were about to overtake New York. I'm hoping that they continue the story. I'm dying to see how it turns out.

I watched parts 2 and 3 last night. Very anxious to see the first part. I thought it was pretty cool. I remember HBO doing a mini series about the life and times of John Quincy Adams. I can't think of the title of the program. I think Sons was very well done.

Alot of reviews I've read say it's entertaining but historically inaccurate.

I think that the HBO series was simply called John Adams.

You can get all three parts On Demand now.

The only problem I had with Sons of Liberty is that I have the image of Paul Giamatti as John Adams that anyone else playing him just doesn't seem right.

Actually. if you look at old portraits of the founding fathers most of the actors who have portrayed them look nothing like them at all. But Paul Giamatti As Adams and Stephen Dillane as Jefferson came very close.

They certainly took some artistic license with some of the facts, but most I thought were minor details. The overall story was pretty accurate.

They had a very dramatic scene in which Gen Gage kills Dr Joseph Warren when in fact, was shot in head by an unknown British soldier at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

I minor detail as far as I'm concerned. It makes for a better story. I didn't mind the few inaccuracies

I saw all three episodes and thought they were great. I think they took artistic license with a lot of the facts but overall it was done well. It was a way to reach the masses and was able to teach history as well. It was more interesting than the Colonial History classes I took, lol.
I can assure you some posters (I can think of 2 or 3) that will blast the show with negative statements. They are the same ones that have negative feelings about everything in this country and negative statement about everything in The Villages.

Programs like this do make american colonial history more fun. In school I had no interest in history or other subjects. I thought at 16 I already knew everything. I think the history channel does some pretty good work at trying to meld actual historic events to grab and keep your attention. I'm also impressed with the work and research the premium channels put into some of their programs even though some language and scenes can be to graphic for some. HBO's Deadwood and Starrz's Black Sails for example.

Very much enjoyed it. Great entertainment. Some of the portrayals of the individuals was shaky, but they made it interesting and informative.

I think you have your dates wrong. The British Invasion was in 1964.

It was a really big show!

Scouting party: Stranger on the Shore by Mr. Acker Bilk first British recording in the rock era to reach number one in the USA in May 1962. Followed by Telstar by the Tornadoes hitting number one in December of 1962.

I viewed the first episode last night and thought it was well done. Film makers sometimes take some liberties with the truth and the first episode was no exception.

The characters were interesting and the story flowed easily. I would be pleased if the history channel did more of these type of shows.

I judge good shows as how quickly they seem to end and leave me wanting more. Good job by the history channel.

Bravo!!!

Taking artist license as done with Sons of Liberty maybe entertaining but unfortunately with the passage of time snowballs into such inaccuracy that it literally rewrites history.

Series such as Deadwood and Black Sails unfortunately focus more on irrelevant sexual content in hopes of drawing a larger audience. To me it is a real turn off and the story loses its appeal because the sexual component dominates and obscures the swashbuckling and adventurous nature of such shows. In other words if pornography is the point people could look elsewhere

I agree. Kind of like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Some people actually believe Santa really has such a reindeer leading his sleigh.
