Some posts (and poster's) annoy me, as I'm sure mine annoy others.

But to suggest limiting the amount of posts a user can make, not to mention seeking to have specific people banned, is absolutely ludicrous.

My vote is to reign in the few to reduce the toxic posting. They are readily recognized and easy to curtail.

Let's have the majority win one for a change!!

Political forums are a waste of hot air and digital space. Posters are not going to change any minds and just end up preaching to the choir.

Are some of you hesitant to use the ignore feature? Is it FOMO? I have quite a few posters on mine and it's a real boon.

Exactly. I assume the same and don't take anonymous online comments personally.

True, true, very true.

I wonder if there are such people as Professional Posters. From my observation, it seems that a significant number of people post as if they were bored with everything else and have to find an escape. Then there are some who appear to be combative or rigidly aggressive about others who do not agree with them since :)they respond so much to so many forum statements.

I'd rather watch TV movies. At least they're fun.:)

How about placing a limit on how many times a person can post in one day?

People would have to prioritize what they really feel is important and use their limited posts to convey that message. It would also cut down on the incessant bickering that we have going on right now.

We would also see far fewer wasted posts such as: Yep, Nailed It, Wow! I agree, etc.. That's what the Mods installed the "Thanks" function for.

As far as how many posts a day is appropriate? Maybe 15? Maybe more? Maybe less?

I know this site is monetarily driven by advertising and the more clicks they get the more they get paid. But if the current toxic atmosphere we're in right now were toned down maybe people would start coming back to the site and actually increase its traffic..

I don’t think that the site owner would agree .....

Why ? Advertising dollars .......If the site owner can Show a potential advertiser that the site has “high traffic “ that means that the advertiser is more apt to pay for an ad on the site ...

Simple as that !

Yeah, but... I don't remember that Freedom of Speech, like a wild stallion to some, can't be given a corral within which to act out. I have no problem with having group-developed boundaries on texting. I have no problem with Moderator boundaries unless they are obviously unfair. You wouldn't be restricting thoughts or opinions or facts being written. Just the amount.

Some may agree with me that NOT ALL one's words are precious. NOT ALL one's thoughts are gems. NOT ALL opinions can win the day.

Some years ago on cruise critic it was revealed that Royal Caribbean paid a few posters to post favorable comments on their pages.

So when people post over and over and constantly start new threads figuring they might have an ulterior motive.

The rules we have now are not even enforced. Many people don't post because they know they will be berated and ridiculed by certain repeat offenders. If you put them on your ignore list their posts still appear in quoted posts.

Stu from NYC 06-12-2020 06:54 AM

I am surprised by the viciousness of the posts disagreeing with people.

Bay Kid 06-12-2020 06:57 AM

If offended you can always not click. But no you would rather complain.

Pretty much any poster starting a new thread that makes a suggestion.

But my main focus was to try and reduce the toxic atmosphere we have right now. Right now this site is operating in the same vein as the old Political Forum..

Really? I never ventured into the old political forum but heard it was ruthless. I honestly don't think our current climate on TOTV comes close to ruthless. In fact, I don't find it polarizing at all. I still enjoy coming here for the discussions.

I get that not everyone agree. That would be very boring, actually. I also don't want any limit on post amounts per day.

"Ruthless" in the vein that it was totally unmoderated and people could say what they really believe...but were able to hide on the main forum.

Especially at first, when not even the user names were known/shown.

However, it became particularly eye-opening, when for a time... the user name of posts could be identified.

And yes, when posts are now made, it's hard to forget and put the cat back in the bag...of those who espoused racist/bigoted/misogynist/xenophobic/sexist/Etc. views.
