According to a report this morning on NPR, the CDC is now considering certain specific travel bans. I am waiting to see if this comes to fruition before I change my travel plans to Beijing at the end of February. If the CDC restricts travel, there is no way a travel insurance company could refuse coverage.

Apparently, concern of this outbreak is even affecting...worldwide stock prices.

Stock market news live: Stocks slump as coronavirus death toll rises.

Global equity markets slumped Monday as fears over the deadly coronavirus flared further. The sell-off kicked off a busy week for potentially market-moving earnings and economic data releases – including U.S. fourth-quarter GDP and a Federal Reserve rate decision – on a volatile note.

The CDC estimates that there are about 50,000 deaths from the flu or flu like illness every year.

Let's put a better, more accurate perspective on this:

For 2016 specifically, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data shows 5 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day. In 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes, 30,296 deadly, killing 32,999, and injuring 2,239,000.

It appears this deadly virus is propagating in a geometric progression, and discovered to be passing from human to human in Germany, not good! Coronavirus outbreak: Americans hope for evacuation from Wuhan as death toll rises

Interesting article with comparisons to other epidemics;

There are many article like this already written.
The media does not do any justice to educate the public. Sensationalism reigns in the media hence the need to seek other sources for REAL knowledge on the subject.

Good news for me yesterday. Air China notified me that due to the outbreak, my ticket has been made fully refundable, as long as I cancel before the flight date. Not having to argue with the travel insurance company makes my day.

U.N. Agency Declares Global Emergency (Poke Here)

Quote:
GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization declared the outbreak sparked by a new virus in China that has spread to more than a dozen countries as a global emergency Thursday after the number of cases spiked more than tenfold in a week.

The U.N. health agency defines an international emergency as an “extraordinary event” that constitutes a risk to other countries and requires a coordinated international response.

While some may complain or accuse the media of sensationalism, or overreaction by others, the fact of the matter is that a deadly worldwide viral outbreak is one of the few things that can seriously & adversely affect every single person on this planet...and demands the appropriate seriousness.
