We're going to Japan for three weeks in April. This is a little concerning that even with people testing positive that have been evacuated from China that Japan doesn't have a mandatory quarantine for the others. They are allowing them to "self quarantine".. Hopefully they rethink that policy in short order.

Death toll is a little over 200, so far. This morning the news stated it is now a global event. I am sure you bought travel insurance, but I am guessing you may be able to cancel with full refund soon

While some may complain or accuse the media of sensationalism, or overreaction by others, the fact of the matter is that a deadly worldwide viral outbreak is one of the few things that can seriously & adversely affect every single person on this planet...and demands the appropriate seriousness.

While this pains me:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:, CNM is absolutely correct. World health authorities need to, and are, taking this as serious. Now that doesn't mean we need to shelter in our homes and be afraid of our shadows. We're a long way from monks ringing a bell in the streets as they yell "Bring out your dead"

During the plague, they just put the dead in the flower beds, cause the cemetery was full:clap2:

Now we're finding out that the Chinese have been lying and that there are actually 7 times as many cases...than what they've reported? :22yikes:

And then there's this...

Cities are becoming ghost towns, while at the heart of the outbreak people are being disinfected after taking the bins out.

Last week, in the last few days of China’s lunar new year holiday, the streets of Beijing were decorated with fairy lights and glowing red lanterns, but eerily empty. Normally busy restaurant and bar strips were dark. Residential compounds, often lax in their security, closed their gates, with guards ordering anyone entering to register and have their temperature taken. Public buses carried only a few passengers. Those restaurants that were open were mostly empty, with only small groups of diners. At Beijing Capital airport, staff, including some health workers in full hazmat suits, outnumbered passengers.

“It’s weird,” said Li, 42, a teacher from Beijing who has remained in the city since the outbreak of the coronavirus. “This isn’t Beijing. Beijing always has a lot of people. Right now the roads, restaurants and malls are all empty.” She spends her days at home cooking and eating, occasionally going to the shop for supplies.

And if that's not bad enough, they're now dealing with a Bird Flu outbreak too.. China reports bird flu outbreak in Hunan province [Video]

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced Saturday an outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of H5N1 bird flu at a farm in the southern province of Hunan.
The virus was discovered on a farm with nearly 8,000 chickens - more than half of them have already died because of the outbreak.

I agree. I think it is a serious situation that could become a pandemic.

Part of the problem is the media. To quote Tommy lee Jones from "Men in Black":

"There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser or a Korilian Death Ray or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable planet The only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW!"

Sometimes planting your head in the sand is best, unless you're planning on taking in refugees from Wuhan
