I remember going on a two for one price to Hong Kong at the tail end of the SARS outbreak without any problem. However this virus looks like a serious threat if it is not quickly contained.

Apparently discounted flights to China from the USA, as low as $300, are already being offered to the public.

Unless going to infected areas in China. Why?

China quarantines in effect (poke here)

Quote:
China quarantines 20 million people in 3 cities; coronavirus vaccine could be 3 months away.

Americans face little risk from the deadly new coronavirus spreading across China and a vaccine could be ready for human testing within three months, the nation's leading expert on infectious disease says.

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, provided the upbeat message Wednesday as authorities in China suspended planes, trains and ferries in and out of three cities with a combined population of almost 20 million people.

Public transports also has been mostly suspended within Huanggang, Ezhou and Wuhan, the city of 11 million serving as the epicenter for the virus. More than 500 people in China have been diagnosed with the virus and at least 17 have died.

Coronavirus: Here's what airlines and airports are doing to safeguard passengers

A small number of cases have been diagnosed in other countries, including one case in Washington state. Airports in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and San Francisco have stepped up health checks for passengers arriving from China.

Not changing travel plans, but next time I order a beer I will get a Budweiser instead of a Corona. Something about drinking a beer that has the same name as a deadly virus just doesn’t seem right?

If I had trip insurance, you bet I would cancel a trip overseas. It is even scary in the states. Just yesterday, two Chinese in TX boasted how they got through customs with a fever.

I have a trip to Beijing scheduled for the end of February, and will probably postpone it. My travel insurance doesn't specifically apply to a disease breakout, so I'm probably not going to be able to get a full refund. My ticket is non-refundable, but for a couple hundred dollars I can make changes. I'll probably go that route. Why take a chance - this is a nasty virus and the number of people effected in China is growing exponentially.

Why would anybody want to go to China right now anyhow. Why is it so important to go there while they have a virus? Might as well go to Iran. I say wait until they get this under control, why take a chance!
