Bahamas no worse than any large city in US, and safer than many. Any decent Hotelier/Tour Guide will point out the hot spots to avoid.

That place is a dump. There are so many nicer islands.

I go on cruises to the Caribbean. One time when I docked in the Bahamas I decided to walk off the ship and walk around the area around the port. I didn't get mugged or assaulted but I felt it could happen. I got back on the ship okay. Two different times after that on cruises we docked in the Bahamas. I stayed on the ship and never again will I walk around the Bahamas. It's a very sketchy place IMO.

I can see how it could get creepy walking around Nassau, especially at night. Maybe Freeport, too. But there are over 700 islands in The Bahamas and on most of the ones that are inhabited there is no cause for concern.

Most people visit Freeport and the main Island, Nassau.

Some countries are not nearly as well run as others. The wealth of all of the Tourism is not trickling down. They are black holes of tourism with poverty being the catalyst to crime. Cesspools. Bad government.

I think some of these "warnings" are to keep US citizens and their MONEY in country. I would certainly be careful going to the Bahamas but would probably be more careful going to Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, Miami.....

Bahamas has the same advisory level as the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, France, Italy, and of course, Antarctica.
