Default I-95 South?

Driving down to The Villages from the NYC area this weekend. Anybody do this recently? Any problems, input or suggestions?

Lumberton NC is a good half-way point to stop for the night. Many hotels (pet friendly too) right close to I95. I stay at the Quality Inn on Wintergreen Drive in Lumberton. Clean, safe, nice free breakfast.

Thanks, everyone. I may try the AutoTrain someday, although I think the drive isn't all that bad (unless you hit traffic). I have done I-95 all the way into Florida a few times, and down 301 on others. Neither one seems "better" than the other, although you can hit more traffic, lights and "speed traps" on 301.

Auto train doesn't go to NYC area. What's worse, is that in order to get to the auto train from NYC, you have to drive through the most congested areas. The areas that will cause the most frustration, are the areas you have to drive through.

Going from FL to NYC area means you get to relax on the auto train, and then you have to finish your trip in frustrating congestion.

Just reverse these directions and you can come out by The Home Depot on 441 (Rolling Acres).

The auto train is just off I-95 in Northern VA. Not for everyone, but a nice change. Always get at least a sleeper. I brought a Miata back to VA. in April. Views were great and 2 good meals. Much better than driving a Miata 12 hours up I-95.

I have taken that before and yes, it is a much nicer and scenic drive. 301 can be very busy at times, and has plenty of stop lights.
Waldo is a notorious speed trap. At one point, even AAA would route you around it.

Anything north of Richmond, VA is certainly the worst part of the trip.

Waldo is no longer a speed trap. The state went after them and ordered them to stop what they wee doing. Because of that, their police force disbanded. It is now a pretty consistent speed through there. I would be more careful with Starke.

301 is horrendous with speed changes every few blocks it seems. Got a $250 ticket in Starke. Was not speeding. They look for out of State plates. I now take 95-295- I 10 to 75 South to 144. A little longer but roads are good and speeds faster.

Reason #89 why I don't have a dog. But seriously dogs wouldn't work on trains. 14 hours with no stops.
