We did a Nile cruise for our honeymoon - Sunboat II.

That was in 1990/1, so the pyramids will be a lot older now.

Going on a smaller boat will certainly be more enjoyable than on one of the floating apartment blocks.

I went on a Nile Cruise in 80s. I still remember the beauty and how much fun it was.

We just returned from a Viking River cruise down the Nile last week. Although the cruise itself was enjoyable, Egypt...not so much. The airports are a complete nightmare, Cairo required us to go through FOUR security checks prior to departing. The temples, pyramids, etc are, of course, magnificent...BUT be prepared for crowds, lots of steps, very uneven walking surfaces and constantly being pestered by vendors. We kept wondering that if Egypt wants to attract tourists, perhaps they could upgrade toilet facilities, add handrails, control the vendor from "attacking" you. My advice is go, be patient and if you have ANY trouble walking or climbing, stay home.

Do check to see if you need a visa as the travel companies don't always tell you. I think you can buy one on arrival at the airport but you need pristine bank notes.

Oooh, not our idea of fun or entertainment, a hard pass.

Strongly disagree. Went in 2018. One of the best trips we ever took. Egypt is amazing! Visa was easily obtained at airport for about $25- our tour guide got it for us. Our tour guides were outstanding, very well educated, advised us not to make eye contact with vendors and that worked well. Nile river cruise was definitely a highlight but everything was great. Yes, a lot of walking. In Cairo our group of 16 (all Americans except for one Canadian couple) was accompanied by an armed guard. Felt very safe.

Different strokes for different folks. Someone posted here that their recent trip there was complicated and that, along with the fact we don’t tour where armed guards against humans are needed, makes it nothing we’re interested in. There are fantastic trips out there that we would rather enjoy.
