Question Traveling to Egypt this Fall

We are traveling to Egypt, Jerusalem and Jordan this fall. We are making the trip with Viking.

Has anyone made this trip and if so, do you have any recommendations?

I did a middle east trip with another group some years ago, but we were heavily armed and had air support. Most of us returned safely!
Water, baby wipes, sun block are essentials.
Do not wander off alone, stay with the group, was the best advice we were given!
PS. Check what they wash the salad in, or carry plenty of toilet paper, and a supply of 'sand and cement juice!'

As long as you avoid the obvious trouble spots you should have a great time. We always "do our own thing" and just wander around, and have never had any problems.

In Alexandria we were mobbed by dozens of school kids in one of the forts - a bit alarming seeing them rushing towards us, but they just wanted us to photograph them.

Friends of ours cancel any bookings at the first hint of unrest, even if it is hundreds of miles from where they were going, but that is what they are comfortable with.

Just be sensible and leave ALL valuables behind - jewellery, flashy watch and camera etc. - and keep your money and credit card under close watch. Like anywhere, there are opportunists around.

Check Tour Advisor: TripAdvisor: Read Reviews, Compare Prices & Book

You will find tons of information. We hired a recommended local tour guide who kept us safe and took us to the best sites. You definitely so not want to do it alone as they will try to scam you, for example if you want to ride the camels they will quote you a small fee and then charge you to get off the camel.

Our oldest has traveled there for business for last 20 years, he is well versed in language, culture, and respected in his field. It used to be one of his favorite places, but in the last few years, at times, he said it feels uneasy for him.

I would not leave the group and try to do things that are structured by Viking. There are many places to enjoy, especially if you’re with the group.

Just be careful while you're there...of those offering any 'get rich' programs.

Egypt is notorious for...

...pyramid schemes.
