It's been a looooong time since I visited NYC and always wanted to go back.

Is it true that NYC is getting very dangerous?

Have you been there recently? How safe did you feel?

Would be interesting to hear from those of you that grew up in NYC...and what your thoughts are on this subject. Also I've always been fascinated by the history of NYC so share stories of growing up there please if you would. :)

TIA

Learned a long time ago to be cautious of our surroundings no matter where we are.

Probably because there is 8 million people in a relatively small area.

You can compare relative crime rates of every major city in the US one against the other here:

2024 Compare Crime Rates

Ocala is much more dangerous than NYC.
Leesburg is much more dangerous than NYC.

Orlando is much more dangerous than NYC.
Peoria IL is much more dangerous than NYC.
Phoenix is much more dangerous than NYC.

I know certain news media loves to attack and endlessly play videos of crimes but NYC is safer than most cities in the US.

Ñooooo way is Ocala more dangerous than NYC.

HOWEVER, I looked at your link and that's what it states.

I've looked at several zip codes where we and our very, very, very extended family reside in fine addresses.

Haha... they're all listed as more dangerous than Mayor Adams NYC, where a young Officer Diller was just gunned down shamelessly by a career criminal.

I’ve watched several YouTubers talking about how random the acts of violence are in the city. People that live there . Also, reports that NYPD isn’t arresting cause they are just “let right back out” . So of course the numbers look better on paper
Criminals have also said ( news report) they don’t go to Florida to commit their crimes because Florida enforces the law.Maybe that’s why Fl numbers are higher ?
I agree with the other poster “once we enough for me “ keep your head in a swivel if ya venture out !

Webcam… everybody in the world can see them, not the same as your private GoPro.

Must be tiring being on guard all the time.

Park only in attended open-air lots, not in parking garages. There are a couple of decent ones near Lincoln Center, around/on West End Avenue. From there you can walk a couple of blocks toward Central Park and take the subway or a bus wherever you want to go - or walk it. I always walked, from West End and 60th to Greenwich Village via Fashion (5th) Ave, then took the cross-town bus back uptown to Lincoln Center again. But that's a long walk.
