Another thought was Key lime pie. Very American. The recipe I use is from Bon Appetit's best key lime pie ever. BA'''s Best Key Lime Pie Recipe | Bon Appetit if you're interested. The whipped cream topping is stabilized with Greek yogurt, and you can make this pie all at once or in three stages. No graham crackers over here, but I think I could find a substitute. No Key Lime juice either, though. I don't remember seeing limes. Key Lemon Pie?

Gracie's peach pie and dewilson's suggestion to buy ice cream are looking good. Also very American, and these folks are very inclusive and internationally oriented, obviously. I should take a flag too Bwahaha!

How about individual strawberry shortcakes. Buy the individual round sponge cakes. Cut up 1 qt of strawberries and mix with 1/4 cup sugar. Put in a container. Buy a can of whip cream. Put all in cooler. Assemble when you reach your destination.

Americans appreciate wine and cheese for dessert. At least this one does. You should be able to get some very good Sauternes and blue cheese to fill the bill.

My first thought was a dump cake but since someone already mentioned it may I suggest GOOEY BUTTER cake? (or is that just a St Louis dessert!?)

I bought the most fabulous peach cobbler the other day at Publix. It is Marie Callendar in the frozen pie section. You could bake it that morning. It has the best crust and filled with wonderful tasting peaches. We served it luke warm with vanilla ice cream. I'm not normally one to buy desserts but this is better than I could make. I did bake for the full amount of time on the package directions. If you are serving four people you may want to buy two as I would serve a large portion or even seconds. It keeps for a couple of days and is almost as good the next day.

Gracie, I share your love of Thunderstorms. I love to watch them come in from across the preserves. Fascinating!!

Dessert: I love the dump cake recipe mentioned early on. It’s delish!

I also like doing a sheet cake, from a mix of course and decorating it like an American Flag. Whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries. Serve chilled. Cool and refreshing!

People seem to love Jello Poke Cake. I make it with 2 French Vanilla Mixes, 1 small box of Strawberry Jello add 1/2 cup less water to it. Poke holes in the cake with a fork. Pour the cool Jello on top of it. Decorate with cool whip. You can put fresh strawberries on top or buy the frozen strawberries and drizzle the juice on top.
