When I was probably about 10, my mom served "chicken" one night for dinner. Ate it and didn't think anything about it. The next day my dad told my sisters and I that the "chicken" was really rabbit. My parents didn't think we would eat a bunny rabbit. As far as I know, that was the only time I ate rabbit.

Did it not have a gamey taste??? I remember some of the wild game I had to eat while out hunting and it always seemed to have quite a strong flavor to it. The rattlesnake too.

The rabbit did not have a gamey taste that I can remember...my sisters and I thought we were eating chicken. Fooled us kids. I don't think I could eat rattlesnake, lion, bear or raccoon.

That caught my eye, too. I LOVED that.

I had to eat or starve on these outings. I used to bump into things a lot when we hunted rattlesnakes. Clumsy me. They could probably hear us coming from fifty feet. My friends caught on and my rattlesnake hunting days near Rattlesnake Mountain in Reno, Nevada were soon over.

We ate the same menu for each night of the week. If you didn't eat at dinner it sure was a long time until the Total or Lucky Charms Cereal the next morning. Nowadays I see several different meals cooking at once to satisfy everyone. I'm not the cook so I keep my mouth shut.

Rabbit was great, when granddaddy trapped them.

I have had a hankering for rabbit lately. I dunno why. The last time I had rabbit was 1976 at a large party. One couple who loved to cook brought rabbit stew in a five-gallon food-approved white plastic bucket!

I have inquired, here and there, if any knew a source of fresh, dressed rabbit. No responses so far.

Some of y'all might be pleased to know that Publix sells frozen rabbit. One of these days...

And for the uninitiated, Emeril Lagasse was once asked if rabbit tastes like chicken. He said, "NO! I tastes like rabbit!"

Of course, some people think alligator tastes like chicken too. Just swampy.

Default Tea and Toast

As a kid, the doctor would prescribe "Tea and Toast" as a diet while sick for almost any illness that children had. Buttered toast was placed in a bowl, sprinkled with sugar, and weak hot tea with a lot of milk was poured over it and it was eaten with a spoon.

The Doctor was Dr. Merrill and he came to the house in the fifties.

Anyone else have tea and toast when you were sick?

For upset stomach, Dr Sam--who also did house calls--prescribed ginger ale.

Yep, us too. It was always Vernors Ginger Ale if we were sick.
Toast was always a big thing for an upset tummy, but not with tea or anything.

For us, it was a bit of Coca Cola syrup. Got it from the local ice-cream parlor.

Same here. My mother’s cooking was well, let’s just say I didn’t know what good food tasted like until I got to boot camp. Here was my weekly sustenance from the age of 2 till I moved out at 18. It never changed, ever.

Monday- Eggs & home fries
Tuesday - Italian sausage & potatoes
Wednesday- Prince spaghetti day !!!
Thursday - Spam, eggs, & potatoes
Friday - I don’t remember [emoji33]
Saturday - Ate out, pizza or Chinese
Sunday- Grandma’s house whatever she cooked

Needless to say, I’m a strict meat & potato guy to this day

OMG! So was I with my Cub Scout Den. And, of course, Twin Pines delivered to our house via the milk chute twice a week. And kids these days think they have discovered something new with food delivered to their house.
