If you love your KitchenAid mixer....
Today on "All Things Considered" they talked about the KitchenAid mixer. It is made in Ohio. We have one. Mr. Boomer thinks it is a power tool. That is a good thing because it means he likes to use it sometimes. (That and the food processor -- vroom vroom.)
Anyway, I thought I would link the audio to the story here for those of you who treasure your KitchenAid mixers. If you do, you will think this is kind of interesting and has some stuff that's fun to know. If you don't have a KitchenAid mixer and you don't care if you ever get one, you will probably think that I have reached the pinnacle of boring. That's OK. Those who love their KitchenAid mixers will understand. KitchenAid mixers sure come in a lot of different colors. Mine is white though. http://www.npr.org/templates/player/...94&m=112622651 Boomer |

NOPE. I am not a big mixer kind of girl.
Not so much Boom. I use a little hand held one. But I do love my yellow Dyson sweeper and I adore my Cuisinart Chopper.

Do you think maybe we could stir up a little action here on TOTV? What's the best kind of mixer? Hand vs. Stand. Uh oh, though, it could get out of control. It could turn into a real brouhaha. It could even spread beyond just the screen here on TOTV. Ohhhhh, nooooooo, it could break out into the streets of TV. There could be a donnybrook in The Village of Bonnybrook. People could start behaving badly in The Village of Hadley. Oh my! I can just see it now. Otherwise charming, lovely people getting into it. What's the best mixer? Stand vs. Hand. What if neighborhood parties turned into big brawls, with people smacking each other with spatulas. Oh dear, Gracie. I really must stop listening to NPR before I cause a whole bunch of trouble. Love it
I love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
In college I lived in a sorority type house with 40girls. We put a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer through the paces. Used and abused it. Sold me. When the time was right I insisted on getting one. Now my 2 girls and daughter-in-law all have one and love it. Susie |

As Usual, I don't know what I'm talking about.
As usual I shoot my mouth off without evaluting the situation....I just now listened to the NPR link and I didn't know that they were made right near us in Greenville, Ohio...I feel so.............unAMERICAN at least un OHIOAN. I have never owned one. I will ask Santa for one for Christmas.
I must be wrong. I feel so bad. I think I'll kick the dog. We don't have a dog. |

I love my Kitchenaid mixer. I use it to make bread. I haven't done that is quite awhile though.

I just used mine on Saturday to make pizza dough for grilled pizzas. Yum! Yum! KitchenAid mixers are the best.

I'm a two-KA-stand-mixer gal. Have used the mixer three times just today. Used to (and still do sometimes) do baking for others and two comes in handy when doing a lot of baking at once. I'm trying to figure out how to consolidate all my baking supplies down if I should move to TV. Currently I have a room full of baking supplies ..but I digress.

Love mine. It is cobalt blue. Used it on Saturday to make Souffle Froid au Citron. (Lemon Mousse - but it sounds so much better in Francais)/ Used the Cuisinart (also cobalt blue) to make the accompanying blueberry sauce.
Mr Katezbox uses it too - he cooks - yum yum yum!!!

I have a Kitchen Aid mixer and love it. It is especially good when I make large batches of cookies (like 5 X the recipe) for others (I can't eat them, have a wheat allergy). It is my favorite small appliance as it is a true work horse. Mine is almond (tan) color.

The final word: An amateur cook who would like to think he/she was at least occasionally a real life chef has a KitchenAid. You may not have all 4,742 attachments, but you do have the beaters, the whisk, and the dough hook. But you don't have to use them for the stuff they're meant.
OH - added -- also, they look really neat on a bachelor's kitchen counter. Girls/women tend to think you cook and stuff and don't mind as much that you aren't a clean freak. `

Oh my....now you all have me confused. I polished up my two KitchenAid mixers and put them in the box for the auctioneer to take. Altho I love them, they have become so heavy for me, so I find myself just using the hand mixer. Also a hand mixer is alot easier to move lol. Now I dont know if I should sell them .

You make me laugh. We are having a little Julie & Julia do this weekend and the mixer (and especially the Cuisinart) may get a little use. My hubs - a bachelor for many years - always impressed the girls with the fact that he owned a KitchenAid and knew how to use it. I will leave it to you to decide if there is a double entendre there. He has also never been know to be tidy - but he makes one helluva Maine Blueberry Pie. Unfortunately he discovered too late that the best chick magnet of all is a cute puppy dog. Too late meaning he is already spoken for... sigh. k

Kate, Eons ago, a fellow bachelor taught me the ultimate meal to serve a young lady one sought to impress. Absolutely no kitchen prowess required. A. Get two Cornish game hens (very earthy to eat, a la Tom Jones), stuff them with Pepperidge Farm stuffing. Put them in the oven (don't remember the temp) with a stick of butter between them. Cook about an hour, frequently brushing them with the melted butter. B. Thinly slice a firm tomato and lay out on a platter, slightly overlapping slices. Dice a small white onion and spread evenly over tomatoes. Pour a bunch of Italian Dressing over the platter and refrig until dinner. C. Cook mixed Chinese veggies like it says on the frozen box. D. Cook a wild rice/rice pilaf/whatever you can find like this same as C. above. E. Either buy fresh baguettes or find a good frozen French/Italian bread and bake --- though since the birds are in the oven, the fresh loaf is preferable. F. Put a stick of butter in a nice little plate -- don't put out a tub of margarine. G. For desert, set out 4 cannoli (sp?) on a nice crystal dish --- fresh from the frig after dinner, not with the other stuff. It is super easy. More importantly, it looks very difficult (be sure you've discarded the frozen food containers), it look absolutely marvelous with the mixed colors, the beautiful golden brown bird, the red and white tomato thing, etc., and no woman thinks any guy in his 20's can boil water. Oh, drinks optional, but for some reason, Cold Duck was huge back then. `
