Default Out of this world TOFU recipe

The "V" Word: Sesame Tofu

Recently, our Chinese restaurant got our order wrong and included a quart of “Sesame Tofu”.

It was out of this world delicious. Today I tried to replicate it and found this recipe.

It’s pretty darn close...........excellent flavor and texture, considering it’s tofu.

Scroll all the way down for the recipe.............very flavorful and totally meatless.

Did you get this at a local Chinese restaurant. I'd like to try it before buying all those ingredients!

Sorry.....no, we got it in Vermont. Did not order Sesame Tofu at all.
They packed it in our bag instead of the Roast Pork Lo Mein.
Everything else was accurate, as we had ordered.

However, as my post said, it was out of this world delicious.....so I found a recipe to duplicate it. I have most of those ingredients on hand, except for the tofu..........we had never had tofu before...........will definitely buy it again. It was "light" yet crispy or crunchy is maybe a better word, on the outside. Hard to explain.

I can see why vegans or vegetarians use it as a meat substitute.

The sauce is similar, but not exactly like, General Tso's Chicken????
My husband, who is definitely NOT a vegetarian........LOVED IT .
If the restaurant had not made a mistake, I'm sure he'd never in his life have tasted tofu.

p.s. Maybe if you call your local THE VILLAGES Chinese restaurant they might have it ????

It would take a lot of convincing that Tofu is delicious.

I also said that I couldn't see myself eating yogurt but I do.

Try the Home Style Bean Curd and vegetables at China Gourmet in Colony Plaza. The tofu is fried and the sauce is excellent.

Will try both of above next time we are there.

This past weekend, when ordering from our local Vermont Chinese restaurant, we chose General Tso's Tofu.......and if one chooses not to eat General Tso's Chicken (which we normally would get) the Tofu version was quite good. We only ordered this as an "add on" to our normal meat stir fries ......simply because last time the Sesame Tofu was really excellent. It isn't anything either of us would ever have ordered. Never ever had tofu before. Pleasantly surprised.

Tofu is basically without a taste - it takes on the flavor of whatever it is cooked with.

Not for me... it is a texture thing!

Frying.... heck, if you are going that route, I'll take chicken!
