Default Recipes -- Cheap, Easy, Aldis

Mushroom Tortellini Soup

I make chicken stock with all the bones, grizzle and skin from a rotisserie chicken. I just simmer it in a pot with 2 with enough water to cover, a couple of bay leaves, black pepper and Goya Powdered Chicken Bouillon for an hour. Remove the fat.

Or get a box of stock,,,any flavor

Use a cup of stock per serving.

Aldis sell Mushroom Tortellini [i forget the price but it's cheap] It's not dried or refrigerated.

and fresh Portebella mushrooms $1.50 a package. Slice and put in as much as you want. Add scallions. The white part can go in the pot and the green part mince and float on top of each soup bowl.

Boil 5 minutes, taste and serve

I'll try some of their other food too and let you know what I paid and how I made it.

Trader Joe’s similar soup. Stock or box, chicken potstickers, scallions, seasoning. Potstickers $3.49 makes about 6 servings

I don't know if Aldis sells them.
I've made them using wonton wrappers and ground pork, scallions, ginger, garlic and water chestnuts. It goes a long way but takes some time.

I like pan frying potstickers. Make a dipping sauce with soy sauce, vinegar and hot sauce.

I like them too. I boil them down covered and then brown them. Make a dipping sauce with soy and brown sugar. Get them at Sam's. Three meals for the three of us for about ten dollars.

Aldis had [has?] fresh Cod on sale 40% off $6/lb. I gpt a package of 2 and it was seasoned for blackening. 4 minutes on each side in a hot heavy skillet.

It was excellent once I scraped off some of the seasoning. It was too salty for me. I had one piece cold and that tasted just as good.

I'm going to think of ways to use it next time. But just butter and lemon might be best at all.

Here's a question. If I buy it to freeze it shouldn't I just buy their frozen cod. Wouldn't that be better since they have the vacuum bags?

Someone told me to skip the T fish and stick with cod and it was so flaky and thick. They were right.

I don't know, I'm not sure I totally believe his recipes.

Only one way to find out.

Come on over Tom...and prove your culinary skills.

Tell me what you want to make. I'll tell you what to buy. I'll cook it for you or teach you how to do it for yourself.

You're very kind and I know you mean it, but my wife who is also an accomplished chef...might make me pay for my attempt at a chuckle.

Thanks anyway though.
