Default Rye Flour

I love rye bread but not caraway, all the rye bread I see in the villages have caraway, so I want to make my own Rye bread like I did in Chicago.

Does anyone know any place that sells Rye Flour? I have not seen it here.

Thanks

Publix used to have it as well as whole wheat but it seems to have gone away with the pandemic. You can buy online if you want mostly 30lb bags. Google it, I'm sure someone sells it at inflated prices you can order online.

Amazing how flour and yeast are still in such short supply.

Enough TP became readily available again.

Same in UK. We never had a flour shortage as such, it was the paper bags to put the flour in that were unavailable.
We bought a 56lb catering sack, and shared it round family.
Yeast is the new gold dust!

They probably used the paper for the bags to make the toilet paper !!

We have been buying a 2 pound package of yeast at Sams for many years. Comes in 2 1 pound package and keeps in freezer for well over a year.

Has been a hole in the shelf at Sams for months now. Nobody knows when they will get it again. Amazon has it for a fortune.

Publix has rye bread with and without caraway seeds. Their bread is delicious.

Hmm all we need now is to somehow take the flour out of the bread and start over

I would make friends with a local pizza resraurant. Ask the owner if they'd be willing to order you a 25# bag of it from their supplier. Offer them a little incentive. I once was the owner of such a place and once in a while a customer would ask me for hard to come by locally items such as tahini or rye flour.

Publix did not carry rye flour long before pandemic. I know because I checked every grocery chain in the area last summer. Bread baking is my hobby and rye flour is best purchased on line. I last bought Arrowhead Mills organic rye flour in 20 ounce packages. Publix special ordered some for me last year but it was double on line price. I have no idea about price since pandemic.

Used to live in Roanoke and Krogers always carried it and quite a few other flours.

Would love to buy Soft White flour for baking but cannot find it.

For years, I bought it directly from King Arthur Flour. They are unavailable right now, but you could check periodically. Search | King Arthur Flour

I buy lots from AnsonMills, whose products are organic and non-GMO. Have never tried their rye flour, though I would think it is as good as the rest. They are a little expensive, but I do believe well worth the price: Abruzzi Heirloom Rye Flour | Anson Mills - Artisan Mill Goods from Organic Heirloom Grains

Enjoy your baking!
