Kinds of Clams, at WeLoveClams.com
Quahogs are the largest size and make the most flavorful chowders. |

I like them both but for health reasons I only eat RED, too much fat in white. By the way since you are in Florida and not New England, all the islands off shore eat the Bohemian chowder, which is RED. The Banana Boat in Boynton Beach Fla. has great chowder if you are visiting S. Fla. and will put a little sherry in it for an exceptional treat.

True, we used to dig for them on the beach in Wareham and my father used to make awesome quahog chowder, but my hubby makes the BEST NE clam chowder! (even won an award for it):-)

No debate here, New England Clam Chowder. Miss the many places in New England we used to go to but the best around here is Tony's in Cedar Key. Outstanding!

You're right about Tony's. The motorcycle group I ride with goes there several times a year and many bring a cooler to bring home chowder. It's THAT good!

I like both, love the New England Best, but while we are on the subject of New England (and sorry to hijack this thread) has anyone beside ME ever had fried belly clams (Ipswich)? I do adore them and no one where I live now knows what the heck I am talking about. I swear I am not making this up. Someone tell me you love them also. Worth the fat and calories of fried food if you ask me.

Yes, I adore them. My husband and I used to drive an hour and a half to the nearest clam shack (in Connecticut) that had them. I love them second only to a good lobster roll.

NE clam chowder, hands down. I never could wrap my taste buds around the combination of tomatoes and seafood or fish.

I prefer New England Clam Chower, but in the winter time, I'll go with the Manhattan.
