When my daughter and son in law lived on an island ten miles off the coast of Maine, they also dug for clams..........my husband also remembers that "job" in New Jersey.......as a kid.....so his mom could make clam chowder. Everyone made the "white" New England clam chowder not the red Manhattan version, although I've had both. |

My husband's father used to go clamming in New Jersey and then his mom would also make fried clams.......a lot of work to prepare them, I would think. |

Manhattan first. Rhode Island (clear) second. New England third.

Not a picky eater (except for liver and onions which I will never eat) so I like both but prefer New England.

We've been told by friends that the CLAM BOX is the very best place to go.
It's right before you enter on to the Cape itself, right??? |

The best fried clams are at Arnolds in Eastham, MA. They are local clams dug here on Cape Cod. They also have the best onion rings, thin sliced and just the right amount of batter.

We've always wanted to spend time near the Cape Cod National Seashore. Each time I get the info......I can't decide which town to get lodging in. Should we stay in one town and then just drive to all the interesting parts of Cape Cod???? Any good resorts you would recommend? When our kids were home, years ago, we drove to Woods Hole and took the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Rented a house from a person in our town here. Can't remember the town but it was close to a small beach. We explored the entire Martha's Vineyard........all the various towns.....and took the boat over to Nantucket one day. Very quaint. Very pretty. Years ago, after college, our daughter and her husband lived in Cambridge and Quincy, Mass......but then returned to Vermont after a short stint in Maine. Anyway "so close" and yet we always seem to head to New Hampshire and up the coast to the Maine seacoast.......but should explore Cape Cod. Any suggestions? |
