Default What is comfort food

I have seen "comfort food" mentioned here.

What in the world is that? Ice cream? Escargot?

What?

Comfort food would be any high carb homestyle meal:

For example:
Meatloaf with mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy.
Mac and cheese with breadcrumb topping.
Etc. Etc.

At least that's what I think of.

To me, it's what my mom would fix when I was sick. So, beef stew, tomato soup, hot lemonade.

I agree with Russ about those carbs -- pasta, potatoes, all that stuff. Often melted cheese and lots of butter involved. Soups and stews can qualify, too.

Comfort food can be for supper at home, especially in winter. Or comfort food can be for a celebration.

Take a look at a Paula Deen cookbook. I have said here on TOTV before that I live in fear of Paula Deen. I know that she is the only woman that Mr. Boomer would leave me for. He thinks Paula would cook that comfort food for him every day, 3 times a day. I just know if Paula Deen pointed one of her cooking utensils in Mr. Boomer's direction, he would be gone from me so fast. I live in fear. He keeps asking me if I want to take a road trip to Savannah. (Is that where Paula lives?)

I haven't watched Paula Deen's show for quite a while. But when I last watched it, she was always cooking that stuff for her husband who was getting fatter and fatter and redder and redder. But Mr. B. just sees how happy Mr. Paula looks when she serves him all that comfort food.

Sometimes comfort food might be ice cream. Or chocolate.

When things get a bit stressful, like when I get really worried about Mr. Boomer leaving me for Paula Deen, comfort food can be my drug of choice.

I think comfort food is a relative thing. To each, his (her) own.

Boomer

Comfort food is ravioli, meatballs. and M&Ms. Not at the same time though. M&M don't mix well in the sauce that you make for the ravioli.

Yes. I'm afraid it really is sauce.

Cool Mexican food !

Normally, I eat very healthy food and frequent my favorite Thai restaurant a couple of times a week

But, when I crave C O M FO R T it's off to the best local Mexican restaurant for fish fajitas, blended margarita, with the sides of refried beans, guacomole, rice, salsa, cheese

On a recent visit to Vallejo California, there was a BBQ restaurant named Gracie's which had the best comfort food...... ate there 3 times in a row; babyback ribs, corn bread, greenbeans, melt-in-your-mouth bbq chicken and lite beer

Then back home to eat healthy again

Sadly, comfort food is anything that makes you fat.

When I think of comfort foods, I think of all the delicious goodies my Grandmother used to make...

Zeppoli
Lasagna
Pizza Rustica
Rice Balls
Pizza (homemade)
Escarole Pies
Ham Puffs

Every Sunday after church, she would make me a huge fried hamburger with the meatball mixture on fresh, hot, Italian bread, loaded with fried onions and ketchup..OMG!
